Default crail 1/4 mile "the big one" event with Fast Car....

...coming up on march 11th. is anyone from here planning on going?
I fancy taking a nice relaxing sunday drive up with my kids then ripping the arse out my old estate car on the strip
what sort of times should I expect with my standard c320 cdi with about 224bhp and 510nm torque ? its a 7 speed auto but its the same box that's in the c63 so its quite sharp and smooth? I want to get a comparison time before it goes in for the remap to compare after.

You’ll need to dress like an Eskimo to go to crail this time of the year, I reckon your big bus will do around 16s

its not ford day. its the willie Robertson memorial day with fast car. online figures suggest somewhere around 14.9 -15.3 mark for the quarter mile.

ford days used to be as good as any but like all modern shows its full of one trick ponies. and for ford its rows and rows of focuses with the same add ons.a general open day will be full of rows of different cars all with the same add ons

My quickest time was 15.1 with a 94.7mph terminal speed but it was with my slowest reaction time. Get my reaction sorted and I'd be 14.8. I beat a Mercedes c43, a type r twice and a Nissan skyline r33 but got beat by a Mercedes c32 and the c43 which isn't bad for a standard diesel auto! Was good fun

What's a reasonable reaction time? Mine varied from 0.5 to 0.9?

Reaction time doesn't have anything to do with 1/4 time, its just how long you took to get going from when the lights go green.

Bet it felt faster than 15, always feels faster lol.

surely a quicker reaction time will shorten the overall 1/4 mile time? your time must start from the moment the light goes green?
ill take the car in for a remap and take it back up for Aprils date to see what difference the remap has made.maybe hitting the go pedal on the last yellow light instead of on the green will help with a quicker start.

I don’t think so pretty sure you pass by a sensor and it starts timing you

the time is from the moment the car starts moving then? whats the reaction time got to do with it then, is that pretty irrelevant ?

Reaction time means nothing, clock starts the second the car moves forwards off the staging line

an online 1/4 mile calculator estimated a 15.3 time for my car with weight and power taken into consideration. it gives me an estimate of 14.4 after the remap.

The RT time could be 2-3 seconds but your 1/4 would still be 15.1.

They do say start moving just before the green for a good RT time but not needed.

its only relevant then to help you beat the guy alongside you ! it was an interesting day. the typre r's were off the line quicker than me but I caught them and overtook as I was advised to left foot brake and hold the revs up for a quicker start but it meant a bit of wheelspin before I took off. the c43 is a 4.3 v8 with 80 more bhp but I have 100 nm more torque so there was never more than half a car length in it with both of us winning one.
do you think smoking the tyres to get the heat up before your turn makes much of a difference in a road car?

I doubt smoking the tyres will do anything other than scrub them out on normal road tyres!

I always though the reaction time for proper drag racing. Ie - in competition the clock starts when the lights go green.

Rwyb you are only racing yourself so the clock starts when the car moves forward.
