Modified Focus ST2 MPG
One of the guys at my local Travis and Perkins builders Merchants is trying to sell his Focus ST2. He says it has been modified up to 380bhp and it only averages 12 to 14mpg and when pushing on 8mpg!!! Surely this is not right? I asked him if it has any running issues and he reckons no.
Anyone else with a modified ST found they get this sort of shit mpg? He is selling it because it costs so much in fuel, no wonder if his claims are right!!

If you're thinking of buying it steer well clear cos it sounds like he drives it like he's stole it all the time - therefore it will have had a very hard life.
Mine was running around 300bhp and I didn't notice any change in my mpg. I averaged around the mid 20's but on a steady run could get it in to the 30's.
When mine was totally standard (apart from a cat back exhaust), I did a track day in it and averaged 9mpg. So his quote of 8mpg is realistic, but you would really and I mean really be pushing it hard to achieve that - and quite frankly if he pushes that hard on public roads he doesn't deserve a driving licence cos sooner or later he's going to kill someone! My 9mpg was achieved by keeping up with and staying ahead of some BMW M3's just to give you an idea of how hard I was pushing on a track!

I have a mk3 focus ST250 remapped to 300 bhp and average 25/26mpg usually but its very easy to get 15mpg without driving like too much of a cunt!
I've not been well this week and actually driving like a fucking pussy, 40mph everywhere and getting 35mpg out it...
Won't last long mind as its boring as fuck and no doubt I'll be back to the early 20's in no time.

Seems odd that other ST owners are still getting reasonable figures even when they have upped the power.

see it all the time on the owners page on Facebook..........
you've got the lads which claim mega low mpg, and the ones which are getting over 30.....
i think it's just some form of ego booster
i used to get around 24mpg out of mine in a normal week of driving to work - it'd easily do over 30 on a 70mph run.
My RS gets about 30mpg on the trip display but it works out to between 20-24, as the computer gets confused with the 750cc injectors.

Long motorway runs will obviously see a higher figure but short stop/start town driving etc will of course see a lower figure.
But to say someone doesn't deserve a driving license and is going to kill someone without any proof of their manner of driving is total bollocks.

No, it all depends on what type of driving he does.

Wahay!! I've lost my Virginity!!
Thanks for the interesting thread.
Thinking about getting a MK2 ST.
With fuel going up to over Ł1.20 a litre again and making sure it has the block mod and a decent clutch I'm not so sure.

If the guy is telling the truth about the mpg on his modded Mk2 ST and you do a fair few miles every week it would cost you a fortune in fuel costs if you bought one like his!!!

Funny enough I did 11 shows last year and only 2 suffered this , one was fordfair and it was all ove the show and the other was the uxbridge classic car show where there was a couple of pricks on the passionford stand doing it through the day but all in all i think the novelty is wearing off lol

I Used to see around 21-24 mpg in my old MK2 Focus ST , Very similar in my MK2 FRS (Both modified) with a mixture of driving styles (although as stated above a lot better on a long steady run) , im the same as Jay though , if it needs the motion lotion i just put it in ! No good owning one of these and being conscious about fuel consumption
