Anyone know anything about these?
A guy at work is looking to replace his really old one for a newer one (2009 1.2). I said I'd have a look for him and I've found one locally that he's going to have a look at tomorrow (1 owner, fsh, 62k).
Now as far as I'm aware and from what I've read, these are very reliable little cars and there isn't a lot that really goes wrong with them, apart from the usual wear and tear stuff.
I've said to the guy that if he wants another pair of eyes, I don' mind going along with him to view the car. He's got the reg so we're going to do an mot history check on it tonight at work.
So apart from all the usual stuff, is there anything specific we need to know about?
As usual, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Now something way off topic! Whenever I read any of your posts there is always a number of words that have these symbols where an apostrophe should be - €™. Is it just me who is seeing these or is there a reason for it?

I'm sure there are plenty of people on here with iPhones. It' just wierd that it's only ever your posts that have the wierd symbols in them. Even that last post had them where the apostrophe should've in the word 'I'm'.
It's really wierd.

I see them as well, I still read the posts as normal (he posts some interesting posts) It must be something to do with the iphone, maybe custom font or something thats slightly out of whack with the forum templates?

Incase my quote doesn't show it, your I'm reads, I’m. That could be the problem then If certain users post on their iphones and I read the thread on a windows computer or android phone. It's only been happening the last several years.

I have hears that the newer bubble shape micras are no where near as bullet proof as the old ones. Friend of mine used to have a few older shape micras, he used to tow a horse box with one

Yes I bet! When he moved house he cut the roof off the horse box and filled it with the contents of his house, that was also towed with the Micra

I buy throw away cars for work always had ka's cant beat em cheap everything had a babg on m6 mates has a body shop had one in 05 so had it had a few electrical problems wasnt as good as ka on fuel i do mega miles so feel it lasted 6 month did 30k in it head gasket went scrapped it veen back in a ka 8 months not 1 problem over 30k now when this one dies i'll get another

K11 micra was awesome for reliability. The K12 wasn't as good, too much Renault influence perhaps. Timing chain was a issue with some of the K12 shape. Also the wiper linkages wear and get play in them so the wipers bang against the plastic scuttle or A pillar. Really annoying fault.

Forgot about that mine packed up needed new linkage as you say plastic cups wore out oh and boot lock switch common fault and expensive £100

Well we went and had a look at it and it looked to be a really good car. However, the passenger side electric window didn't work and while looking under the bonnet I noticed that the main loom looked like it had been broken into at some point and had been bodged with poorly applied insulation tape. I'm guessing the repair underneath the tape was just as professional!
Told my mate to walk away!

Should tell your mate to drive some other cars to be honest. I was unfortunate enough to have a 2015 one as a hire car last year and it was just awful. How they get away with selling crap like that is amazing. It felt like it was from the 1990s!

It’s got to do with the character encoding scheme used...apparently. Are you on Safari or a different browser? Try clearing your cache for safari and website data. Other than that I don’t know. I’m mostly on the iPhone on this too as are many I’m sure. Maybe update to iOS 11.1.1 also. Sorry for hijack OP.

Yeah it doesn't necessarily have to be a Micra, that's' just what he's had for about the last 9 years. His is an old 'Y' reg one and is getting a bit long in the tooth now.
He's in his 60's and has a budget of 3k. He wants something small and reliable for getting to work and back but also comfortable for when he goes up to Birmingham a few times a year.
I was thinking something Japanese for reliability - maybe a Honda Jazz?

I agree KAs mk3 4 5 fiestas were bloody reliable too. Its just finding a fiesta that isnt rotton.

I got my dad a mk3 fiesta as a workhorse for him. It towed the cossie a few times when i first got the cossie and it kept breaking down lol. I trusted the mke fiesta that much that i would of driven round the world in it ha ha.

I know a few people with Jazz's and they all seem to love them, though they are very Japanese, so plastic-y and nasty. Bet they go on forever though.

Yeah that's the thing with Japanese cars, they are a bit plasticy inside.
You're right about the Jazz though, I've seen a fair few with a lot of miles on.
The Yaris may also be a good candidate. Seen a couple of them that look pretty good. What about the Suzuki Swift? Always thought these were pretty nice looking little cars, but don't know anything about them really. I can only assume that they're just as reliable as the other Japanese stuff?

The Swift isn't a bad looking little thing really. The Sport gets really good write-ups. I knew a guy who had a regular 1.3 one for a few years and don't think he ever had any major problems with it.

I think all the Jap stuff is pretty bullet-proof really. Let's face it though, most stuff is these days!

I used to work on quite a few Suzuki’s and we always said they should have stuck to building bikes they are so poor but the old Suzuki swifts 1990s On were pretty good just rotted out. I think everyone’s got different experiences. I know people who love renaults but working In a garage for so long owning a Renault would be like catching hepatitis to some of us they cause so much grief

I have two Renaults; a Clio 172 and a Megane 265. The Megane is pretty new so obviously ok, but the Clio is nearly 15 years old and done nearly 140k and it's still fine. It's taken a beating since I've had it and just laps it up.Some jobs are a pain (cam belt being the obvious one) but most parts are cheap and they are relatively simple. Some of their bigger stuff is hopeless, but the Clio is a great little car to be honest.

my neighbour has had a few micro's in the past, but he's a driving instructor
his latest one is a 17 plate and before that he had a 14 plate one
never had any issues with it at all, i know as he's always said they were great little cars

ok, so someone smashed into the back of him and the insurance company repair quote was £4k but that's not the cars fault
