There are tons of them out there, not all are standard and it's another huge market. So why not ? Not all of them will retain the crappy synchros, not all will be high revvers, not all will use clutches that are less friendly to fast shifting
Jeez, alright mate, calm down

Dale down under testing the Bremer on a T56

Which is a little surprising when there is the Aussie made S1 shifter already out there for the T56

As the Bremer never seemed to actually materialise for whatever reason for any gearboxes, it seems the T1 Sequential guys are now on it and working on the T5, ( and other platforms too )

Is there really any benefit to fitting a sequential shifter to a conventional synchro type gearbox. Surly you will just just end up damaging the synchros

It will only harm the synchros if you drive it in such a manner as to harm them, same with an H pattern. It's still a mechanical shift, your hand/arm is still doing the shifting

But as with earlier in the thread...not really any huge benefits no.

But their other units have definitely proven popular around the world, and there are certainly plenty of T5's out there.

Your right you can still change gear sympathetically to give the synchros a chance. But in all honesty that defeats the point of a sequential in my view. After all they are there for a faster gear change.

Or they are there to ensure no missed/incorrect shifts ? Or there because the owner wants one ? Or there because they may be faster because the driver is incapable with a regular H ? Or there to be faster as the owner is racing and doesnt care what harm may come to the synchros which are a wear/tear item etc etc.

There can be many reasons someone might choose such a system, especially if seeking out every last hundredth of a second consistently. But it is a hefty price to pay at around Ł2k ( based on T56 prices )

You could equally say the same about the MME fully automated air shift setup which works on a synchro. It most certainly will be faster, but can definitely be harder on synchros as it removes the mechanical sympathy aspect.
But clearly they too have a market for such things, and theirs is definitely cool.

The T5 gearbox is a strong unit but it is never going to be as smooth and easy to change as a modern box. mine was fully rebuilt by Barra and I have a Helix 6 paddle clutch with hydraulic conversion but as for super fast gear changes up and down it aint going to happen!!

Yep exactly. Mate has a sequential in his saff you can smash up and down fast as you like no let off. That’s a sequential a fancy bolt on selector doesn’t do that.

He has an elite box wasn’t cheap and it’s been back for repair twice but the second time I believe was because it hadn’t been serviced

it was about 6 grand if I remember right lol. But it’s made to be used like that. It has dog engagement gears that cope with that abuse and to be fair he dose abuse it.

Jesus.....it only lasts 1000 miles between rebuilds ??? And it's been back twice for work ?

Fuck that, buy a Samsonas or a similar decent box like Tractive.

i never said it lasts a 1000 miles I’ve no idea what the service mileage is. You would have to ask elite. He has had the box for years and mainly dose track days
