Default Best paint for yb freshen up.

Bought a yb the other day and it's been a while since I painted one as used to use Hammerite for it all but wondered what people recommend now?
It's a 200 block that I want to paint so blue of some sort, also want to paint sump, head, inlet and maybe turbo.

Going to paint gearbox and diff to but that would be etch primer and silver of some sort?

I don't want it to flake off or look shite so any help appreciated.

Still Hammerite then, I used to buy it in the tin and knock it up with some thinners then spray it on as opposed to rattle can. I'm only thinking blue so if I get any oil leeks I can see it.

I would not recommend painting the sump, head or any alloy parts as the paint will just flake off after a while. Use high temp block paint for the block and powdercoat the alloy parts.

Sounds like a plan Rich. If you want you could aquablast the alloy parts. It will make them look like new.

What do people use to paint the cam covers?? Does it have to be a certain paint that wont crack or flake off when the cam cover gets hot??

Yeah I was thinking about that. To be fair once it's cleaned properly it may look fine so will see.

Previous owner did mine with normal radiant red paint using a spray gun about 5 years ago and it surprisingly still looks great.

Mine was painted 22 years ago Glenn, not sure what paint was used but it still looks good.
