Default Gearbox or Diff temp.

What would you consider most useful (or which is most likely to overheat), measuring gearbox temp or rear diff temp ?
Cheers

I do not confess to knowing much or anything about this particular topic, but my instinct would be to measure the gearbox temp. I would imagine that will run potentially hotter due to more moving parts and heat transfer from the block. They also tend to be the more expensive part to replace/repair out of the two. So I would rather know if that was going wrong if I had to pick between the two. In an ideal world you would want to measure both. Especially for a track car I would assume. Do they need close monitoring?

I've never measured them before, but upgrades I'm making give me the opportunity to easily measure a least one of them.
So it would be rude not to.

I wonder if you could wire in both and just have a switch to swap between each sender?

The diff could easily have a boot mounted gauge as you don't need to be checking it all the time

I'd be tempted to fit a diff cooler and then monitor the gearbox and possibly add one there too

Thinking about it I may just have a long lead on the sensor so I can screw it into the gearbox or the diff. And monitor both just on different occasions

Sensor will be connected to ecu and displayed via an ecu display system.

Probably don't need a diff cooler, measurement of temps is the first step then you can make an informed decision whether to fit one or not..
