Right I've been looking at another car suitable for a car seat as getting my 1 year old in the rs1800 is virtually impossible and not much Easier in my mk6 rs2000.
So far I'm looking at
Mondeo st200
Mondeo st220
Cupra r 20v turbo (my favourite option)
Virtually ruled out a focus st2 as so many about and I've grown to dispise them.
Anything else you'd recommend?
Budget max 3k. Something reliable too

My mates got a mk4 golf v6 4wd, it goes bloody well and sounds good with the stainless fitted to it but due to the age it needs a lot of upkeep now but it is used daily. Boots not very big though. I've always wanted a mondeo st200 or st220 very nice to drive

octavia VRS. don't knock it until you've driven one
for 3k you'd get a mint mk1 with some sensible mods or a reasonable well travelled mk2. i had a mk1 for 2 years before it got written off and had my mk2 for 6 years now, haven't changed it as i don't think i can better it for the money.

If you want a ford go with the ST220. I can get my 16 month old son into my mk3 mondeo easily enough. But if you want a fast saloon go for a impreza or evo if you can afford it.

Volvo S60. OK, not a 5 door, but theres no cheaper way to get 300 reliable ponies, and they usually chime in cheaper than a turbo hatch with much less grunt. A cheap way to get a rust free MKII Focus ST with the engine already tuned for you

The ST220 are a good car. Try to find a well specced one with the full sat nav head unit and the entertainment system in the back for the back passengers.
Just dont go for a 06 07 reg cauae there about 400 quid a year tax lol. The last ST220S had half leather and half alcantara (sorry if its spelt wrong) the rare seats are red leather with the black inserts.

What about the mondeo mk4 2.5t?
Same 5cyl volvo engine as focus st and come with plenty of spec!
Plenty of scope for mods too, platform has more in common with rs then the st, RS front brakes bolt straight on.

ill be just as predictable and suggest a 3 litre tdi c class with sport pack. 265bhp + 450lbft after a Ł230 tune up,smooth 7 speed auto, 0-60 in low 6's seconds ,36+mpg, 360mm discs with 4 pot calipers as standard, lovely black leather /aluminium interior , 7 speaker bose system and generally a lovely place to sit . my 2006 estate with unmarked bodywork, service history and 3 previous owners cost me Ł2600 . another Ł1500 spent since has given me 18" amg alloys with uniroyal rainsport3 tyres, limo tints, stainless exhaust and new brembo discs and pads and I'm now so impressed with it I go out for a drive for no reason other than driving, and often end up in towns/cities up to 100 miles away. ive not done that with a car since I had my cosworth bmw back in 2005 !

Thing is Fuzzy the mondeo does just a good job as the merc but without the badge snobbery and the price of parts for the mondeo are a lot less.
Ive driven mk4 mondeos are they drive so much nicer than the mk3s.

maybe theres badge snobbery at the high end but were on the bottom rung so I don't think that matters. ive not found parts to be expensive either. 350mm brembo discs and pads for the front cost me under Ł150 to buy and a local garage fitted them for Ł60 . general service parts seem to be average as well.
