Default 1.5l ecoboost in a focus

Hi guys my wife is looking to buy a focus zetec s. She was looking at the 1.0l but there seems to be a few 1.5l ecoboost for sale. I've tried looking on Google to see if there are any problems with that particular engine but can't seem to find much out. Has anyone had any dealing with the 1.5l.

I've got the predecessor in a mondeo. 1.6 ecoboost. Had it nearly two years now with no problems.

I have a 2 year old MK3 Focus with 50k on the clock and it's utter wank. Ford have no idea how to build a car these days it would seem and their customer service is just non existent, I haven't found one decent dealer yet.

I was told by my supplying dealer that I was being 'picky' when I complained about the paintwork! Horrendous orange peel and defects in the paint everywhere. Also every single front door I've looked at on a MK3 Focus has this horrible 'ripple' effect almost as if it has lots of small shallow dents in it.

Reminds me, I need to book it back into the dealer for the 39th time in 2 years.

The biggest issue I have is a calibration issue. Sometimes when you go to accelerate the engine bogs down or sometimes even feels like it cuts out altogether for a second then carries on like nothings happened.

A dealer has told me there is a calibration issue related to the EGR valve which Ford know about but have no intention of every repairing. This puts me in an awkward position when I get the car remapped once it's out of warranty because I love how clean the car is but I have no other choice but to have the EGR removed.

Either way, I'll never own another Ford which is a shame because I think they make the best looking cars going at the moment and I've always been a Ford guy.

Oh yeah! One of my parcel shelf strings support snapped a few months ago and when I took it to the dealer they refused to even try and get it fixed under warranty because they'd never seen another snap before? I mean WTF?

Looks like you have had a rough time of it with your car mate. I have heard Ford don't have the best customer service.

I bought a 3 year old Polo for my partner just before Christmas. After about 3 weeks the PAS pump got noisy and the bluetooth didn't work. Volkswagen couldn't do enough for us! Put us in a brand new Polo TSi for a week while they sorted everything and threw two free services in. All on a Ł6k polo.

Then you have Ford who are constantly on the defensive and act like you're inconveniencing them when the car you bought brand new keeps going wrong time and time again, making out I'm at fault and being unreasonable.

I'm not a VAG fan. I think they're cars are dull as dishwater but I can see where my money will be going on my next car.

Yep that's fair enough mate seeing as the problems you have. I'm hoping the 1.0l or 1.5l ecoboost might be a bit more reliable. Will be giving the cat a good look over before we buy. Looking at some thing around 2 years I'm.

To be fair you may have been unlucky but you are also a tinkerer

To say all 1.5 focus are unreliable based on your problems is fucking Lunacy, also your mapping issues are irrelevant as the OP is asking about the lovely petrol engine, not the shite derv

The focus is one of the best selling cars and if unreliable would not be the case.

Petrol is fine. Most of the dervs are now utter shite at Euro5 or above. Why would you even pick a derv unless your doing mega miles. I can categorically state that in the last 12 years I've worked in a Ford dealer the only faults Petrols have is lambda sensors and cats when they get to 10 years old Ish. Diesels are lucky to get to there first service before they've broken down or pinged the management light on.

Yes they are Glen. The engine's themselves are pretty good. It's all the emissions crap on them that's the problem.

I'm unsure how me being a 'tinkerer' changes anything? There's nothing I've done that could have possibly caused any of my issues. I've lowered the car with Ford approved Eibach springs, changed the oil in between services and now it's got upgraded front brakes.

Nowhere did I say that all 1.5 Focus are unreliable based on mine. And I completely get that the 1.5 Ecoboost won't have the hesitation issues mine does.

I also totally understand all makes and models make Friday afternoon cars but the way I have been treated by Ford is a downright disgrace and should be enough to put anyone off buying one!

Engine is lovely apart from it's hiccups. Pretty good on fuel and actually for 120bhp it makes reasonable progress without every really having to lean on it. I bought mine as I was doing 30k per year up and down motorways. My commute has changed now to 40 miles a day fast A and B roads and it's perfect for that!

Any known issues mate I can't seem to find much info on the 1.5. Might just be because they are problem free.

The 1.5TDCi is almost identical to the 1.6TDCi it was given a slightly smaller capacity to appeal to the Indian market where they get penalised heavily for anything bigger than 1.6 litres.

I think I'm right in saying the 1.5 Ecoboost is the same situation being based very much on the 1.6 Ecoboost.

The 1.5 is a 3 cylinder and going in the new fiesta st with 197 bhp. Trouble is there isn't much going on on the tuning front, not even Mountune.

That's the new one mate. The "old" 1.5 petrol is a 4 cylinder, which is the one we're on about.

Didn't know that the st 3 cyl should be tunable if the 1 litre is anything to go by. Probably why Mountune didn't bother with the Focus then.
