Am I being truely thick, but how do they work? Just a second restraint to unhook once the bonnet release is pulled/fails?!

If the catch let's go and the bonnet comes up, the strap will stop the bonnet going all the way back and smashing the screen and destroying the scuttle etc.

I guessed what it did, just wasn't how it fitted?! Bit more discreet than bonnet pins I guess...?

My speculation would be from the slam panel to underneath the bonnet so it's not seen from outside.

Engine lifting eye and around the catch that's bolted to the under side of the bonnet.

Had a bonnet come up on me in my old mk3 ghia at about 80ish and destroyed the bonnet, scuttle, windscreen and creased the roof and coming to a stop looking through a little gap in the middle of the windscreen wasn't clever

Thought it was game over there and then,it was for the car. Scrapped it the next day

That looks a bit long for my liking, by the time it fully extends there must be some force in that bonnet, I was expecting something that allowed the bonnet to lift a few inches at most.

I know what you mean but it needs to be long enough to allow you to open the bonnet to fit it in the first place

I was thinking more along the lines of it clipping onto something so you unclipped it to open the bonnet.

Has anyone experienced a bonnet flipping open and a strap catching it?

Is this a serious problem with MK4 Escorts? I've honestly never heard of it before

Apparently it's more of a issue with big front mount intercoolers fitted. Mine has popped open before but not past the secondary catch. I have one of them straps for back up.

Is that because material has been removed from the front panel to allow fitment of the I/C?

Makes sense if so

It's the 550mm one you want so the bonnet only opens about 4'... on eBay for less than a fiver

That's sound more appropriate, the one in the picture above looks way too long, if the bonnet has enough power to destroy the roof and scuttle I can't see the latch that it's holding onto being strong enough once it's got some wind behind it and gathered some speed up as it goes up.

Do you have a link?

I've been after one for a while, and anything I search for I just get fancy leather straps for morgans.
