Default Decent jack brands

right i had a halfords jack but when i got my Focus RS it was too high and i went and bought a new low entry jack from costo

the brand was arcan and it served me well for 2,5 years then a piston jammed.

i work in engineering and decide to try and fix it but after stripping it and finding the faulti decided it wasnt worth is so it got scrapped.

whilst stripping it i noticed the general build quality and design was very poor.

who makes good jacks that will last?

was recommended omega but had a quick look at their website and they seem to be an american company selling chinese products (same as arcan) and dont want a repeat of last time

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clar...ile-1-5t-quic/

I use this, unlike some low entry jacks it's it's quite long aswell so can reach a sierra front subframe and not catch the splitter and reach the back diff ect. It also jacks up really high and the wind down valve on the handle gives good control and goes down slowly.

My mates had his 3 years and had mines for 2 years and no problems I've even used it on my van without any problems.

They sell high lift axle stands aswell very sturdy £35 pair

Exactly the same as mine, I have had it for 2 years with no problems. My Saff is lowered by 35mm and it goes straight under and has good control as well.

It's a brilliant jack mate I work on my stuff all the time, only grudge is wheels are tiny in diameter so the frame of the jack catches stones ect if not on nice smooth surface.

Try sgs in Derby , local firm that makes tool chest and garage equipment . I've got a tool chests and it was great for the price. They do many jacks and are all made in th U.K. In the Derby factory.

I've got one of their 3 tonne jacks. Used it when I had my own garage and it's still working great now 10 years later. Used to have to get it checked and serviced every year for the insurance, same guy who did my Ramps etc

I was going to say snap on jacks (the old ones) but I dread to think where the new ones are made.

To be fair, I've had a few Sealey jacks over the years, and other than a return spring breaking, they've been fantastic.

SGS do one similar to this, and I've a very old Sealey version of it, although mine is only rated at around 1.3 or 1.5ton. Never had an issue with anything I've used it on though.

High lift long reach, low entry. Ticks every box you could ask for.

I do have other regular Sealey 2T and 3T jacks...but I rarely use them.

I got one of these years ago after my previous sealey rocket lift failed very soon after buying it. still works sweet and is by far the best quality constructed jack i've seen. i highly recommend Compac as a brand.

I have an sgs jack and it's been great, only gripe is the release is too sensetive, and the cam sprocket at the bottom of the jack has some play in it so it doesn't always catch the release valve, I've had it years and used it very frequently so it doesn't owe me anything, mine might be an isolated case though as I don't here many other complaints, I probably got a Friday afternoon jack

Mine is the 3 ton garage jack, I wanted the extra lifting capacity, as I say, you don't here of many complaints but that's my only gripe with the jack, it'll lower slowly but I have to be careful as it's really sensitive, it's a good few years old now so if anything they may have addressed the issues without anything being said

Most of the jacks nowadays are all the same generic tat painted differently.

Only decent jack so have would have come via snap on I'd imagine (as it was from my Grandads garage business) and is probably at least 30years old. It's actually solid rather than cast bits everywhere.

I get through a few jacks being mobile and I can say the only one I've had real issues with has been the last one, some 'joker' make sold by SC motor factors. The first one I had literally fell apart the first time I used it. The collar where the handle fits into is all cast and just fell to pieces when I was jacking up a transit! Literally crumbled.

My previous jack was one from euros, 3ton. Was crap but worked and then one day I had a transit rear end up high trying to get the axle stands out (as I was working on the side of the road and van was half on pavement) and the driver of the van thought it'd be a good idea to push the van sideways to 'help' while the jack was fully extended! The jack folded up like it was made of cheese. Just glad I wasn't reaching under at the exact moment.

Sealey parts are usually readily available.
