Cupra 1.9 tdi good or bad

Bloody good engines these....the 1.9 is referred to as the PD and has various different power outputs. Its shared across the Seat/VW/Audi/Skoda range of that era.
I had the PD 130 in my old A4 Avant and was awesome. Never once missed a beat in 2 years and I sold it on 145k. I had one of the tuning boxes on it which apparently raised power and torque a bit, but cleared a couple of flat spots and an annoying low down judder also.
Make sure there is history, especially the belt at its proper intervals. The Cupra is a well put together car and drive great when you get a good one.

I had a 1.8t cupra not long ago and that was a bundle of fun, only got rid as it wasn't big enough for work (currently have an e class estate) as above the 1.9 TDI engine is rock solid, use specific PD oil and 7-8k servicing to get the best out of it, I had a Passat sport and hydroliced the engine when I got stuck in a Ford and the car wouldn't select reverse, I was too far away from home and had no tools to remove glow plugs, I kept turning the starter and it eventually pushed the water out the bores, it fired up and was like nothing had happened, I eventually tuned it to 210bhp and sold it off with 140k on the clock, checking MOT history it's still going strong with 180k iirc now.

Thanks chaps, so they're good cars overall yes i knew about the engines namely the 1.9pd this is the 150hp I've had a go in it and drives spot on but the suspension (for me) is to hard as it's got coilovers but i guess with original shocks ect it'd fine fine. If i got it i'd miss the space and comfort of the mondeo though.

I had an ibiza with the 1.9tdi engine, absolute rocket that was, good all rounder, only thing I disliked about it and why I got rid of it was I found it too bouncy, like being back in an 80's hot hatch. I ended up getting rid and replacing it with a passat

I think ford diesels are generally ok its injectors really that let it down
This one's hard and bouncy too but it's got coilovers i wonder what it'd be like with originals on it but yes it's quite quick and good enough though

I had an 04 cupra tdi - one of the best cars I've ever had. Great engine and bullet proof. Mine was a high miler when I got it and never missed a beat. Really liked the low down driving position compared to my focus. Was nice and quiet, comfortable and went like stink. Mine had all the toys as well, full electric leather, climate control and black Seat sport OZ alloys.
Only got rid of it cos I fancied a Focus ST. Often wonder what happened to it and if it went to a good owner. Last I heard was the Ford dealer i part exchanged it at here in Somerset sold it to a dealer in Gatwick I think. That was nearly five years ago though.
