I've a mk4 golf and the passenger door dose not lock or un lock with the central locking. It opens when you pull the inside door handle

Got the same problem with my Passat mate. Been told it's the solenoid in the door

I'll take a look. Someone said it could be the door micro switich thinking the door is always open? Apparently there is a central locking control unit that signals each door.

I could see mine trying to work for a while but I was too lazy to take the door apart. It now only tries to lock/unlock every now and again

I had something like this on my old daily, in the end the door wouldn't open and we had to break the lock and swap in a new one, common problem apparently.

Yea very common, locks are pretty much the same for wide range of VAG cars that era, get it changed sooner rather than later as it'll be 100X more difficult cutting the lock off to open the door, iirc micro switch fails and the door doesn't register being open, solenoid failing is the funny lock behaviour.

Oh and it's all in the lock carrier itself, and iirc the Chinese knockoffs on eBay do work ok, maybe a quick Google just to make sure wouldn't go amiss.

Had a quick look today when you lock and un lock it with the button inside you can see it trying to move . Same if you bang the door card and try to unlock it with the remote the pin go's up a little. So there must be a signal getting to the solenoid. So I ordered a new solenoid off eBay

Total ball ache if it doesn't open, fixed one for a pal and it was a pain to get into the lock as you can't remove the door card with the door shut.

Mine still opens fine just don't un lock with the others it try's too. I don't use the car much as I do call out every other week so have my van. At the moment it's in the workshop sat there doing nothing till next week lol. Ive ordered a new solenoid now as I don't want it to give up totally as others have suggested

Happened on my Leon. Think a lock control unit was £35 off eBay. Took about an hour to fit start to finish.
