Default DIY turbo rebuild

Has anyone rebuilt a turbo themselves such as a t34 with one of them rebuild kits you can buy.
I have quite a lot of play forward & back on the shaft but barely any side to side ect.
Just seeing if anyone had used a rebuild kit with the 360' bearing ect and is it worth doing yourself

Iv done and it's worked spot on the big thing you must do is mark the shaft and the nut / turbine so when you put it back togever it will be balanced right

I have a mate who has done this on his t34, not strictly a rebuild as he bought a new core off eBay but it's been ok on his car

Cheers mate the balancing thing was my only concern I was thinking of.
If I have play back and forth is it likely the shaft is shagged or just the bearing as there's next to no play side to side?

I done my t34 about 3 years ago with a rebuild kit of ebay, . Use a micrometer to check shaft diameter to ensure its not worn below min spec. Make sure everything is clean then clean it again. Plenty of fresh oil on re-assembly and jobs hopefully good. Having said that mine does smoke a little on overun but has no shaft play and has been fine peaking 23/24psi since.
So it can work but probably best left to the experts for a proper job inc balancing etc.
