Fuel cut off solenoid
Does anyone know how much movement you can expect to see if you bench test a fuel cut off solenoid? My car is a 1.4 petrol Escort on a J plate. It will run perfectly then just cut out, seems like fuel starvation....

Well thanks for that really worthwhile, as you know so much can you tell me if the solenoid moves it say a millimetre or two? The car is playing up so that is why I am bench testing stuff that might have an influence.

I dont give a flying fuck how much it moves.
What matters is whether any movement effects the switch....so test the fucking switch in-situ as the vehicle is driving to see if the state of the switch changes during whatever this problem is you're experiencing.
If it does, then it could be the problem, if it doesnt, then clearly it isnt.
bench testing isnt going to tell you fuck all.
So yes, it is very worthwhile
Or just bypass it entirely for a test to see if car still behaves in the same manner

Profanity
Such profanity might be common place in the toilet you call life,it isn't in mine.iI would imagine few on PassionFord find your choice of language amusing, but just in case the majority do enjoy it I have decided to never ever use the site again.

Atleast we didn't all get called to55ers like the last fella
I think the bypass method would of been the most beneficial test, if it's still cutting out with it bypassed you know it's not the problem
Or look for technical documents on the interweb for the carb in question, I can't even remember what make it was as I had a manual choke version. I do remember it being very simple in design so one does question why he's still scratching his head.

The chance of a fuel cut failing is pretty rare, and you would know if it was knocking off by the fact you have to keep resetting it
