Have anot 170 and air con will work but the compressor works when it wants won't work driving and sometimes needs a wack! to engage the pulley but when working cools and works lovely is it a simple thing or will it be a new compressor

Why would it work after whacking the compressor ? Like something isn't making it engage properly

it'll be the clutch in the pump that's playing up, hence the whack to get it working

or it might be some dodgy wiring to the pump

put direct power to it with the engine switched off and see if it clicks into action or not
