Default Altering the steering position

Front the rack to the bit that the steering wheel bolts on too! As before when i had to drop the cross memeber and rack etc i had to disconnect it. However when putting it back together i didnt quite line it up straight however its that close it cant be done by taking of steering wheel and altering.

So can u seperate the where the pinch bolt is and the rack with out droping the rack? as its needs to be altered on spline across.

Fookin thing is doing my head in not having the steering wheel straight. but dont really want to drop the rack just to fix it.

you gotta loosen both ends of the coupling then bend the coupling over at the UJ and pull it upwards turn it to where you think it needs to go and reverse the instructions above.

then continue for the rest of the day fooking about with it

HTH

Its not that bad really - you just goota be sure which way your gonna turn it to correct it, cos it all fooks up when you get under the car. And if you make sure the shaft is greased up nicely its not too bad.

sorry to scare you

go on - its fun

igot just the same issue Rhys.... and it's 4x4

You can do it all from above though, disconnect from the bottom of the steering column first, it's just f.fiddly and you will be sure to have to do it a couple of times before it's right.. lol

Having to do mine cos i fitted a new rack and mines not straight!!!!

Easier 2 do from underneath thou cos u cant really reach the spline bolt from above.

Easiest way is undo the top bolt and the bottom one and remove the coupling off the spline, then without moving the wheels and making sure their striaght do the top bolt back up onto the column and turn the wheel so its striaght. Then as long as you happy with it loosen the bolt again and fit it back on the spline again trying not to move things and do them all up and should be straight.

Will take a few goes thou i did mine last week thinkin i got it right and its still a bit pissed

for minor adjustments you could CHECK how much "take" you have in the tie rods then -

if you loosen the lock nuts on the tie rod arms and rotate BOTH tie rods in the SAME direction to move the steering over IIRC its forward goes left and backward goes right.

cheers

careful not to offset the rack too much though cos you'll get uneven lock left to right.

Yea thats the problem i had mate, looked like it was all sweet as then when i drove it was still out

Its making sure the wheels/rack doesnt move at all while its in the air and you have the spline off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

for small adjustments read above - sometimes you can't move it that little bit
