What car is it? Sounds like it needs mapping properly...

I was advised when mapping by MSD to use octane booster over here. It was mapped on Topaz fuel from Dublin before getting the ferry over. I use Silkolene Proboost but to be honest I notice no difference.

Without it I get 10.8 - 11.2 AFR on full boost (32psi peak, 26psi hold). Have yet to test it when using it as I've just fitted a new Innovate MTX-L AFR gauge last week. AFR rarely goes over 15, idle is good around 14.7. Light load is 12 - 14. Looks to be mapped on the rich side but I guess this is safe.Don't know too much about any of that or how relevant that is but just saying in case it helps.

Philip.

I have just mapped a Escort from Ireland I found that your 97 fuel is no better than our 95 so I would advice you to get it mapped.
I ended up doing a two map system on the Escort one on straight fuel I check the map with your 97 and our 95 and it was the same. Ended up using water meth mix and also millers cvl octane on the other map to get some power back in to it.

Yes but do you want to handle such a nasty type of fuel and the health problems it could bring.

Use the relevant PPE and you'll be fine or use a race fuel as an additive like Sunoco MaxNos.

We are looking at a 70% vpower and 30% MaxNos to give a Ron rating of 103+. MaxNos is particularly good as a blend with Vpower or any pump fuel because it's stoich and Reid vapour numbers are bang on.

It all depends on how you want to use the car though and the mileage you want to do.
You're right it might just be easier to map to the fuel that is available rather than pre blending.
I'll be doing very limited mileage.

Ireland do not get 97 at all, only 95.

Northern Ireland will have 97, most common being BP

Really if a fuel isnt readily available and the car gets used regularly, it's daft mapping it for fuel you cannot get unless you can switch different boost levels/maps to accommodate better fuel ( with safeties in place in case the owner fuck things up with the wrong fuel lol )

It's my car mark mapped,I filled it with bp super 97 and its crap. As mark said he's a switch for different maps and the knock works very well on the ecu to keep things safe if things aren't right.

"Crap" is relative I guess.

It's all we get here, it's pretty much all I ever use and any of the cars I would work at...simply because it's all we have here. They rarely seem to have a problem going fast when required.

It's all good and well saying this is better, that is better....we dont get any of this and that over here !

And with regards this thread, down south is even worse where they dont even get 97 at all, only 95 everywhere.

If that's all you have, then build the setup around that fuel or prepare to pay a fortune for fancy fuel, or start using things like water/methanol or methanol etc.

Mark had said there was ways to deal with it buy changing comp ratio, but as my car wasn't there for an engine build I didn't want to go down the route of starting to pull the engine out and change Pistons.

What comp would you need to run to achieve 400 bhp on 97 ron fuel mark?

There is no 97 in Ireland.

Various stations in Northern Ireland do sell 97 to whatever BS standard they're supposed to be. I would assume at least BP complies with these standards.
Aren't most mainland stations SUL rated higher than 97 anyway ?

I'm sure it would be nice to have better, but we dont. It isnt really a problem.
