Default A Big End Bearing discussion Please.....

So what is the best YB big end bearing to use?...I have been told std Cosworth...but surely there is a heavier duty item which can last longer...as lets be honest a refresh means bearing changes so using heavier duty means longer between refreshes???

Or am i getting it wrong and any bearing even a std pinto bearing would last the same amount of time????

Educate me please my komradz

A long lasting bearing means more crankshaft wear...

The whole point of seperate bearings is so that they can be scraficed instead of the crank.

IMO std bearings too, always.

IMO uprating bearings is only a way of masking an oiling problem thats fucking the std bearings, if your oil setup is adequate there should be no wear on the bearings whatsoever.

yeah i could do with a new front door speaking of that...

Standard bearing will be fine, because

a. you will never finish it
b. you wont get any miles out of it.

yep!!

the oil is between the brg face and crank journal, but you still see a loadin of about 2 tons on comp/ign stroke on the brg face albeit using an oil interface to stop contact

so i would give that a great big fooker of a YES!!!!!

For such a special engine surely you will opt for DLC instead of bearings....!! less frictional losses...weight saving and more power....

If you use a harder bearing then it can take a bigger shock load, so better for a 800bhp engine for a short period of time, if you want it to last though then go for a nice soft std bearing, because it wont kill the crank the first time a minute bit of swarf tries to embed itself and the bearing wont let it and pushes it back onto the crank instead.

As a general rule any "race" part is good for huge power and shite for huge miles, manufacturers use the bearings they do because they can last a long time.

Thats the fundamental problem with your idea of building a massive power engine then turning the wick down and using it as a normal engine, it just wont last.

P2B clearances are another example of where you want the total opposite for power and reliability.
