jeez, what an expensive 1.6 Mk1.. as if the shell is unstamped, it may as well be a 1.6 as there is no proof that its even a cossie shell. And without the YB its effectively a crap rep in need of paint

I think my favourite part of the ad is that he says "unable to value" but he has put "what I consider to be a fair reserve price". Surely that means he is able to value?

I thought the rs500 shells had different beam mounting points on the rear surely you'd be able to till by them?

Aww so it's just the pickup points on the beam that are different and not the actual shell itself.

correct, the only different thing about the shell is the corner of the battery tray was chopped off with a hacksaw to help clear the inlet manifold

I know it's been painted but it's a very wishy washy shade of moonstone blue.
Odd it's got a tilt and slide sunroof, the motorsport and base model shells didn't unless whoever did it fitted a roof skin but if they were that capable they could have drilled the hole for the aerial.

I wonder if the shell has the correct straight towing eye or the factory stamped cutout for the abs setup? May phone the seller and ask for a pic or two of these areas. I'd say it's a base model shell. Also the front bumper has fog lamps rather than the 500 air ducts.

From what I have read the fog lights came in the boot so it was up to the owner to fit them if they wished to do so.
Pity it's not a decent pic of the bumper to see if it's at least gen rs500.

seller either hasn't been told of this thread, or just doesn't care and ebay will probably not care as long as they get their share of the money.Feel sorry for whoever ends up with this

Seems good shell but...

Aerial in wrong place
No door locks
Front bumper can be seen but is it RS500? and no splitter attached
What kind of parcel shelf did the RS500 come? that one seems to have the plastic lid on

About the front towing eye just to guess will it be the correct RS500 type, I think not.

Has anyone been to see this car then? Without it being given the once over by someone who knows them it seems a bit fair to rubbish it. One of the breakers said its a load of rubbish and missing its bumpers, but clearly u can see a front bumper so he probably said that so he can buy it himself.

I've contacted the seller. No front bumper, engine, box,ecu and loom. Shell is a 1989 ford parts shell. Was written off about 10 years ago.

You can smell the poo from the pictures, it would be a waste of fuel, if my front bumper was worth 1k plus it would be clear to see, rear wing? Shell? No engine and box even the front splitter would be hard to find if not there.
I had no 337 a few years back now and searched for 4 years for the right car, if it was a genuine shell and all the bits were there it would be worth something but not what it is at the price it's at, somebody who doesn't know what they are getting is going to get stung in the arse.

I have seen first hand at least 30 RS500s with the later replacement shells, this will no doubt be number 31

Many of those will have been simply logbook RS500s when they acquired their new shells, and all have found willing buyers once they were rebuilt.

In a couple of years time this one will be exactly the same and being admired at shows no doubt and completely legal.

Can you explain to me how this works? The shell is a 1989 one and if it is not an RS500 shell even if you put all the right RS500 bits into it how can it become a genuine RS500? I thought the shell with its ID numbers is what determines its provenance?
