Pricing a Sapphire Cosworth
#41
You will never lose money on a sapphire if you buy it now and hold on to it. would love to see this thread in 5-10 years and say to ourselves , as if we didny buy that car for 10-15k because in 10 years cossies will be 25k+
ive bought all my cars when they were rock bottom.
i have
2wd Magenta Cossie
4wd Smokestone Cossie
Mk2 Escort Harrier
Focus RS
looking out for a escort cosworth but none have come up cheap enough yet.
i paid just under 20k for all of them above, ive had most of them some years apart from focus which was my newly purchase.

Did have 3dr as well but sold it to buy a better one but as I sold mine , the other got sold same day . Also got a original AX gti and saxo vts , all cars that are going up in value . Anything in 80s 90s are rising in value not just Ford's

Ebay cars seam to sit there , it's the auctions where there prices are strong and actually selling , I've been to the last few at Kings Lynn and they are making good money as long as Mileage and owners are on the sensible side ... Cystal blue which did not start done best part of 9k ... A moonstone been restored was clean but not original made 12k and was then put straight back up on the net for 16'995 and sold ! And a really nice smoke stone with 40k on the clock done just under 20k ! Even a 80k d reg xr2 done 7600 !!! . It's where people are putting there money but they got to be proper cars

It's mental how the prices of these cars have gone up. If only I kept my mint S1 RS turbo, 3dr cossie and my escort cossie which only done 30k at the time. I think I sold it for 18k back in 2010, I hate to think what's it worth now.

Anything remotely interesting/ old/ rare-ish is going through the roof at the moment... How long will it last? There is a huge bubble growing imho & as soon as the interest rates go back up I think we will see a huge correction. There are some crazy prices being paid for some very average cars IMHO, across all the brands. 911 GT2s (996 model) were fetching 35-50k two years ago, now they are seeing asking prices of 120k +, Escort Cosworths going for 40k+, not to mention 500s!
The music will stop eventually, whoever is holding the cars then had better like them, a lot!
Just my 2p

Then low interest rates are allowing people to get mortgage top ups etc and spunk the money on an old car that they think will just non stop continue to rise and pay off the mortgage top up and more when sold.
Better to get your mortgage paid if you have one in my opinion

The best cars will always hold their money, the prices of average cars hanging onto the coat tails of the mint cars can't keep rising.
The other day I seen a wanted ad for a s1,the guy had 10-12k to spend and was hoping to get 1 that had done less than 100'000 miles,I have seen 1 s1 that had done over 100k and there was nothing left of it,nowadays 10k gets you a lot of welding wire and filler if you're looking for an s1.

Them cars you list above are best of bread. The saff that did 35 was a bonkers mallard green one was it not? That's a rare car in an auction that would of have collectors there. A run of the mill 4x4 sold to jo public is not realistically going to sell for over 10 is it. And if it dose I bet it will take a very very long time to sell
Prices are on the up

Cars like this are the ones worth 15+ unless special cars like extreamly low mileage and 100% out the box original or rare colours. But most for sale are no wear like this. Problem is people see ones like this sell and think shit my slightly modded high mileage one with 4 owners must also be worth over 15 grand lol

I agree that there are Saphs not worth half their asking price but the cars that are well above average shouldn't be dragged down in value by the below average cars advertised for top money.

And I'm a bus driver, I done it all myself with no favours from anyone

If its any help, yes it is true that many people don't realise how many more three doors are on the road compared to saffs. Here are some figures that often shock owners!!

Best offer I turned down just over a year back for my saff was Ł15K. Its a mint 2wd but does have 59K on the clock. I've owned it since 1992.
I guess I could be offered more now so hope that's a help?

Saphcosmike bloody well done that looks superb, I wouldn't use it after that I'd just buy two post lifters and stare at it all day lol. Did you do it all off axle stands?
#73
Aye and they say never been welded but don't say that slight pressure with a flat screw driver on chassis legs, sills and seat mounts would result in Swiss cheese lol

It would be great having all the gear but no space for it all.
I'll give Dave a shout this week.

I was shocked at mine when it was in the bodyshop and the middle section of the sill was rotton. How would anyone know theres is mint without cutting the outer sill off and havea look.

Hats off to you, I'm constantly complaining to my Mrs that our single garage is too small so kinda found a solution I'm going to rent a unit and go halfers with my mate so we can get a two post lifter ect I can't wait.

I dont know why people want a rust free car surely welding a old ford and keeping it on the road is good enough.
