Default Where to go for E46 M3 engine?

Need to put a new motor in my brothers car after it threw a rod on the dyno. Anybody recommend a decent breaker?

Might be worth asking about on M3cutters?

http://forums.m3cutters.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=27

I've had a look and the only one breaking at the moment has it's engine gone already - but if there's a decent one about then members should know.

I felt a bit of a dick as he sent me a pic of the car on the dyno so I replied with "what did it make?" I then get "look at the floor". Completely missed the bits of engine and vital fluids

I have used quarry motors before, they have a good rep and are nice people.

I think I would be sorely tempted to look for an M5 V8 or even the V10 whilst the engine is coming out. I have seen the V10 in an e30 with twin turbos

Is the car pre 2003? I think there were rod bearing problems before 03.

Has it damaged the block? There is a company in the states who sell a very very comprehensive rebuild kit with modified crank, rods and pistons to avoid this problem. Think the kit price was £2000 or close which is impressive.

S54's are all over ebay for about 2K last time I looked.

ahhh. Well good luck finding a replacement lump for it! I saw one on ebay earlier with 80K for £2500 but I wouldn't trust that without seeing it in the car tbh.

Quarry motors in Sheffield are good and I think there's another one called F A B somewhere.
