New Amal Valve on Escort Cos?
Hi,
I am now 99% sure that my boost problem is my amal valve after I fitted a bleed valve temporarily and I could turn the boost up fine. What I want to know is if I fit a new amal valve will it run the exact same boost it used to or will some things need adjusting?
Many Thanks
Dan

YOu maybe lucky and it might be OK. To be safe you'll the fueling checked.
My amal valve was by-passed by whoever fitted the chip . When Karl saw it he re-connected it and sorted it out. However, the actuator rod was too short to drop the boost to safe stage one levels so he actually fitted a carb jet to bleed off some air (bit like your bleed valve). Occasionally I hit the boost limit so I need to get a new actuator. Karl was happy for me to change this and use the std boost gauge to set it up as I know that if I set it to where it was before then the fueling will be OK.
In your case because you had a problem with valve and haven't had it checked for fueling I would change it and get it checked to make sure. You may also be able to get a bit more boost out of it too in the process.

Thanks for the reply
My car was set up with an amal valve and I only put the bleed valve on for 2 mins just to check it was the amal valve which was making it run less boost and now the amal valve is back connected and its running the low boost again, if i was just to get a new amal valve and just replace it with the old one would it just run like it used to before the valve broke or are they all different?
Cheers

I think you'd be OK. Just keep an eye on the boost gauge and check it in 4th under full throttle load (when you're likely to hit the highest boost), if it looks like it is going to go past where it was originally set, stop and get it checked out.

Cheers I'm on the look out for one now, hopefully just a straight swap of the amal valves will fix it, has anyone had any probs when putting a new amal valve on?
