Default Actuator dubts - round two...

I bought new -31 actuator form Stu for MSD reflashed ECU. It is pretty much identical from outside to the old one but there is one huge difference. On the old one on the car the actuator rod just goes out of the actuator and is not screw on anything. (maybe it's screwed in - didn't try to turn it hard). On the new one there is something like 4cm of threaded part going oit of the rear. Do I need special actuator rod or what? It's T-25 Escos actuator. I post pics when I got them soon.

Right. I just thought it would fit no problems.

The one on the car seams to have rod as it's part. My mechanic is going to send me pics to post. When I post them everything is going to become clear.

I "think" I know what you mean (but would need pics to be sure). I believe the one with the same spring tension as a -31, but with the different rod length is called a -51 (or something similar). This may have been discontinued, as most people just got the different length female part to suit a normal -31...

If you put pictures up, I can then see if I have the right end of the stick .

Right. I will post pics as soon as possible. Stu says I need standard small/big turbo actuator rod. If you got one would be great because I need it here in 2 weeks at MOST. Preferebly much quicker.

One more thing - what is the length o standard rod? I found a rally service over here that has whole box of those things from various Fords, but they don't know which length is needed.

There are none. I don't have the car here as it's in the workshop but I think there is only some number on the back - very long one. If you are interested I take it out and give you the numbers on nearest opportunity.

Azrael,
Just so you can be making further progress, that "looks" like a standard 4x4 actuator that you have on the car at the moment, but they are available in two types. If the number ends in 54, then that is a standard non-cat item and with your bleed valve you can easily achieve 20psi with it (so the -31 is a waste of money ). If it ends in a 55, then that is even better, as it is off a CAT equipped car and has an even stronger spring (so you can achieve even more than 20psi). What you need if you want to fit the actuator Stu has supplied is the original EEC IV female part of the arm (hence why Stu has machined it down and threaded it for you, as he obviously thought this is what you originally had on it). I have a second hand one you can have for Ł20 inc postage (providing this doesn't come to more than the Ł8 I have allowed ).

Hope this helps.

It will go up as high as 1.8 bar if I let it. That's why I'm changing it. 1. I want proper boost control with my boost solenoid not bleed valve that makes 1.8 from 1.3 with mere whether change 2. my actuator seams to be failing

Great if I can't sourceit locally I take this one. (although we'll something more sensible then parcelforce which is 7 pounds and always gets lost) But if you could tell me what lenght is it I would deeply apreciate as I wouldn't be waiting for it as I can get it locally if I know the length.

Azrael,
A shame I haven't got the right rod from Stu at the begining.
Erm..
The actuator supplied is 100% correct for the T34 and T28 models as supplied by Ford. Its your car thats wrong.

Mike,
I have these made specifically.. no shonky cutting and threading going on with mine, they arrive ready to fit

Back to the original topic.

I got the rod from cossymad. It's the longest 130mm one. I got the actuator and when I unscrew it to the maximum it is still about 10mm to short. I am afraid to pull it out that much and I don't think it would work fine... Something is clearly wrong :-/ What else can be non original? Actuator bracket? Exhaust housing?

Will it be right if I just cut the rod and weld in a piece into it to make it longer?

Yes, you could extend the rod no problem.
Perhaps puta topic in general discussion to see if an EscCos owner will kindly measure his turnbuckle for you so you can ascertain the correct extension before you start.

Can anyone help me? I've got the same problem, its a 4x4 T3 and new -31 actuator. Don't know where it came from but its new - came in a box with a job lot of engine bits I bought ages ago. The actuators got 430099-0031, x31 and 02-150 on it. Any ideas?

New Actuator

Old one compared to new one...

Cheers

Your looks like it would be enought to just screw on a Escort Cossie rod like the one I have.
