Default Just died on idle now won't start

Hi all, my 2004 mondeo tdci has been working great then all of a sudden when parked it suddenly died. Started immediately and died within a second or twotwo. This happened a few times. AA checked and codes Low fuel pressure. I know there are a lot of threads on hear and I'm doing my research, however today something occurred to me...
Normally when you switch on the ignition (not starting just dashboard lights on) you normally hear a buzz/whirring. I presume pump or relay kicking in for few seconds.
This doesn't happen anymore. Could this give me an insight to what's happening? I've checked fuses.
Any help appreciated as this could be expensive if I get it wrong. Had the girl from new so if I can get her running again I'll be happy bunny
Cheers all

Probably the high pressure pump has packed in, it is what sends nearly all tdci mondeos to the scrappers. You need a diesel specialist look at it to confirm, but I would suspect it's that.

Cheers, that's what I'm thinking.
Would that also explain the lack of something initialising when I switch on ignition?

maybe your car has in-tank lift pump to help maintain flow, worth abit of research,
good luck

Possibly. My old tddi had a broken wire in the pump wiring plug which was found by an auto electrician, which you need to have looked at first by a specialist before condemning the pump!

They don't, only the very early mk3 tddi's had a lift pump.

Thats what I initially thought the whirring was the pump firing up pre start. But from what I gather on tdci there is no electric lift pump just the mechanical one.
Cheers guys

i would take it to a recommended diseasal specialist for full diagnosis but it's normally the pump that fails due to too low a pressure

in some cases they will fire up but not drive properly but before throwing money at it get it checked out and then decide

Cheers, think that's going to be my next step. Have to get it towed so going to look around

So anyone know what the normal 2 second buzzing noise is when ignition switched on before start. As this doesn't happen I wonder what this is/was and if an indication of what may have failed.
