What are the pro's and con's to heat wrapping a cast exhaust manifold?

discuss please as I've heard various theorys and i'm still not sure

I did mine,hotter the gas the quicker it moves.

I wouldn't on an everyday road car, it must heat the actuall exhaust up more, especially after giving it some and then parking up.

I'd expect any cast manifold to crack given time when subject to that sort of heat.

Basically the hotter the exhaust gasses the better the flow, down pipes are o.k but
i have been told not to wrap my manifold due to excess heat being able to melt
the turbo exhaust impellor wheel..

well im wrapping mine regaurdless as the manifold is melting my fooking carbon heat shield

ill tell ya the results soon

How much is the heatwrap and where from was thinking of doing me downpipe on me 2wd cos seens as though its off the car

done my downpipe (stainless) the other day, seems to run a bit cooler, cant feel much in performace

Wrapping cast iron/aluminium should be ok, its when a casting gets hot and you pour water on it, it cracks. Should be fine

I wrapped the 2nd part of my Cossie exhaust manifold and the downpipe.

Main reason i did it as was to stop the fucker melting stuff!
