It is an acquired taste, some love it some hate it (just like marmite really).
When it came out in france, it was a huuuuuuuuuuuge success, some people couldn't get enough of it and returned to the cinema time and time again to see it, there apparently was a special screening in paris, where they simulated sea scents in the cinema to enhance the experience further
