Just up the road fromm me, wouldn't buy a paper from there haha.

Seems people see it as on old ford in good condition and just slap a price tag on it.

Lets be fair though if you want one in this condition its going to cost you a few quid

eBay ruined everything......every dumb f#*k without a clue just assumes if it's on eBay then it must be cheap and if someone else is bidding on it then it must be rare......it's a mk4 escort with a spoiler on.....jeez......

Is there really that many folk that love xr3's that much that they'd pay crazy money? I can see the point if it was an rs turbo, none the less it's a clean car and there's hardly any xr3's on the road let alone clean ones.

Thought this was Passionford
Not the RSOC

Get over it most older cars in reasonable condition are demanding a higher price tag...

Not that expensive compared to the RS tat you see at that money, if it was an rst in that condition it would be 3 to 4 times that price easily

Why is every low mileage older car on ebay now a "barn find"?

He even states in the description "The car remained garaged for many years".

As you know Glenn I am against the way prices are going through the roof on anything Cosworth related but this one is different. It probably is unique and the best one still left so it will fetch strong money.
It looks a better buy than some of the 3 doors and Escort Cosworths that are up for crazy money at the moment.
Cheers Richard.

Exactly, two different cars, 3i is way harder to find also. Just because it doesn't have a turbo doesn't make it inferior just a different drive with no lag.

Old fords are widely regarded as excellent investments in this condition regardless of model. Personally I think it's worth al least 10k and to some collectors, is the same as the change in my ash tray.
I bet it would pull a crowd at the shows.

Saying that's cosworth money is only relevant if you want one, it will be a very economical to run and maintain as a classic also unlike cosworths.

Sadly though, I doubt if it will ever be driven again by its new buyer.

Exactly what I was thinking, the mk3 was so much prettier and I always felt the mk4 3i looked like a cheap version of the RS... (Sorry to anyone who has got one)

If it's a great example, then it's priceless if it's what your after...
Try finding another now days.
Most cars that are 20 years old plus demand good money if it's the right car...
It's now't new...
This is Passionford, where we love all types of Fords...

Problem is because it's not a Cosworth half of you can't get your heads round it...

There's far better cars out there than a old Cosworth...
If I had the spare cash I'd buy another Impreza Type R... Far better car out of the box in all aspects...
My opinion of course...

But there's to many Cosworth value threads on here at the minute ( Willy waving threads which are frankly alittle boring )
All the Cosworth value threads might be more appropriate on the RSOC, but those rejected from the site still insist popping on here waving it about because there not wanted elsewhere...

( Not a dig at anyone in particular so please don't take it that way )
Just seems sometimes that unless your a Cosworth owner, your a nobody...
And we've ended up with the RSOC nobody's thinking there somebody on here...

I dont think anyone on here doubts that it probably is the best of its type still left and it will fetch a high price, but this is a forum where everyone can have their own opinion.
Be pretty boring otherwise.
Did you mean you would buy another Honda Civic Type R as I havent heard of a Subaru Impreza type R?

You seem a tad bitter mate, there's no denying the cosworth is the most popular ford out there and in many people's opinions they are also best.

I've loved impreszas for years and only recently got into cosworths but I would never just say a type r is better and that's it. They just rust and blow up the same cossies are just more fun that's all. And I've been in an AWD motorsport built 470bhp type r. I think subarus handling is a myth, they are ditch finders.

Not bitter at all...

Just saying there is better cars out there than rusty old Cossies. We don't need a how much is this Cosworth worth everyday thread.
It's nice to see threads with non Cosworth content and nice to see values increasing...
But as soon as it's not a Cosworth you all come out saying it's not worth that...
There are other old Fords out there that demand a higher price tag due to the fact there's less about.
You can go on eBay and search for any 80's Ford ( or any other 80's car ) and there all starting to ask ŁŁŁŁ's for them...

That's your opinion regarding Imprezas...
But I'd rather spend on a Impreza Type R if I had the spare cash again that any Cosworth
They were by far a better handling car than any Cosworth...

Yeah everyone has different tastes ect, inprezas are good cars and no one tries to nick them like cossies lol. Thing is you've no idea how rusty they are now, my mate has a ver9 wide track blobeye and a hawkeye spec c project and they rust everywhere, the problem is you can't buy replacement arches or sills ect.

I've been brought up round imprezas my dads always had them, when I was mad about them I always wanted a white hawk ra-r...then my mate took me out in his 2wd saff cos which was the first time I'd been in a cossie...I now own that cossie pmsl

Bit of a generalisation though about the " rusty old Cosworths "
If they have been looked after and waxoyled from new they are no more rusty than any other car. Mine has done 105,00 miles since 1990, still has every original panel, never been welded and never failed an mot.
Japanese anti rustproofing on 1980s and 1990s Subarus etc was no better than Fords was. My Son has a 2001 Subaru Impreza WRX STI and it has some rusty bits already.

Slammedorion- I pretty much agree with all your posts. Cosworths are popular no denying that, my dream car is an escos, also like Saphs and 3-doors.

Adam-m I disagree that cosworths are or were the most popular ford, they are iconic yes, fastest yes, best not sure. Figures only go back to 1994 but it's a good indication of units sold

Saph cos-2900 cars
xr2-98000 cars !

Just an example. I have no beef with cosworths just excluded myself from buying one due to cosworth tax. Still love them just won't buy one, I have big respect for cosworth owners as they have good taste

Slammed Orion- how much would say a nice ghia set you back today, a lot! Actually try finding a decent one full stop,as I'm sure your aware.

The older fords don't get much coverage on here which is a shame as I'd like to see more, cars like Tina's are big money today, I suppose the overall ford Scene isnt reflected here, good site tho.

Just my 2p of course.

Everything has gone up, maybe since the recession has been and gone people feel safer/ happier to splash out on weekend toys...
I'm 33 now and my first car was a Orion
That's why I have one now, built what I always wanted in a Orion... ( I would have kept my Impreza Type R but sold it when I was 27 to buy my first house )
Would imagine most people buying a 80's car now days would be in there 30's-40's... Maybe settled down and looking to buy the car they always wanted when they passed their test, but couldn't afford to buy them or insure?
Maybe to re-live their youth, or as a investment of some sort...

I'm 34 and my first car was a mk2 fiesta dreamed of having a red xr2, never happened tho gone full circle, also had a scoob, but sold it for a cav turbo.

Your right on 30s and 40s reliving their youth or scratching the itch I've met a lot of people collecting parts.

Prices have gone up across the board, 80s especially, a good period in terms of cars. I've also noticed novas have disappeared, wonder what a mint silk violet gsi would fetch today, can't remember the last time I've seen one.
