Default Speeding Ticket Help

Picture this...

A newly built dual carriage way with a filter lane (for cars to get in front of lorrys from a set of traffic lights etc).

A BMW 3 series in the inside lane and I pull up in the lane next to him.

We both set off and im slightly ahead, not accelerating just a bit in front, as I accelerate to get a bit further ahead to pull a decent distance in front of him he accelerates at the same time so I accelerate to get in front of him before the end of the filter lane as there is a car right behind the BMW that I cant drop back into.

As I pull infront I see a car flashing at me on the other side of the road, as the car goes past theres a speed camera van about half a fucking mile away in a 50 zone.

The van was about 60 yards behind the 50 signs in a layby, and today I got a letter for doing 60 in a 40?

Obviously the speed was correct and I was in the wrong though no fault of my own wanting to nip in front of this car when I shouldnt of bothered anyway. Bearing in mind I was already tight for time on my way to work.

What would be the outcome of this? Ive had a look online and every single view is a mixed opinion and I have another piece of paper in my fine saying 3 points and 100 pound fine, or an awareness course, or a court summons?

Ive NEVER been caught speeding before and I have 3 points for a bald tyre on a moped that I got before I even had a car but they expire in August this year?

50% over the limit is almost certainly a trip to the magistrates. Look very sorry, explain the situation but accept it was an error of judgement on your part and that you accept you are guilty. Even when you're in the right there is little point trying to argue as the police are all wearing shiny bright halos and ask motorist you are scum who needs to be made an example of.

My SP50 in 2012 made no difference at all to my insurance.

aparently not

a ban is only usually applied for more than 30mph over the limit, in fact the guideline for issung a fixed penalty (3pts, Ł60) is for upto 65 in a 40 and that is almost certainly what you will be offered, go to court and the guideline punishment is 5-6 points, not a ban.

I didn't say a ban, I just said it would likely be a trip to the magistrates. To be honest even with a trip to court I doubt the penalty will exceed 3 points.

it used to be 21 over the limit sent you to court and if your at court in front of the judge your likely getting 4 or 5 points instead of 3 ...but that was in the old days before the soft option speed awareness courses.

Best to go find the camera van and burn it.

It wont change the points/fine situation, but it will make you feel better, and many other people.

karma and all that

I've been on 2 speeding awareness courses now The last one I did beginning of this year was cheaper than the fine, only lasted half a day and free tea/coffee and biscuits I'm sure the first course I did years ago was nearly a whole day and more expensive? Long time ago now and can't remember

How can anyone even create a website suggesting a motorist who exceeds the speed limits has any rights ?

The government ensure they have no rights, despite the vast majority causing no harm or damage to anyone or anything.

Yet when you call about an accident where someone proves they are dangerous and incompetent...the law completely ignore it most of the time. The whole system is bonkers.

Sounds like the root cause was a typical BMW driver who couldn't stand to be overtaken, see it every day not sure what it is about those cars but the seem to turn the drivers into complete bellends

wont go to court as you need to be 30mph over the limit.

Will get 3-6 points for that and a fine

So the summons is giving you the option of all three? The court summons will be for if you want to contest the fine, which you'd be mental to do.

If so, isn't it kinda obvious which option to take?
