Default keyless entry thefts

It would appear that every day or near to every day I see on facebook facelift focus st and focus rs mk2 models reported as stolen, I think these could end up nearly impossible to insure in the near future. It would appear BMW had similar issues to, I'm not sure if this has been sorted yet, from memory it was on watchdog about these.

Your thoughts..........

They have been getting stolen now for over 3 years, its best to upgrade the security of the car..

I wonder why people dont think to upgrade their security when they know full well they are been taken with ease

Certainly proves you can't rely on factory fit security, same story since it was first ever fitted to cars I guess?!
As above, if you don't fit additional security, don't expect your car to still be there in the morning!! There will always be thieving scumbags about....

It didn't help matters when a car security company shown where the dead space is that the interior sensors can't see for you to access the obd port.

I have also got pedal locks so if they try to steal mine they will find it hard to drive away with no clutch or brakes!

You need to weld around the bottom hinge plates too and also add a seam welded strap to the top limiting how far the arm moves - as long as it moves enough to open thats all you need. Any more is a gap for a crowbar to get in.

to me it seams like new owners of these cars have not done any research as it was pointed out years back how easy these cars were steal, if you can afford a mk2 frs you should be able to afford to upgrade the security surely

the thing is tho, if i buy a car - any car, i dont want the hassle of fucking about fitting disk locks, pedal locks, taking the ecu out every time i park it etc.

id want to just get in and go.

so surely the onus is on the manufacturers to make it harder for the thieving twats in the first place.

If that's your view them the insurance will simply skyrocket
Anyone who doesn't care about their car won't bother but the whole point of having a car like this is that it speaks to the enthusiasts who look after them

The real point is the manufacturer should be working to sort the problem with a firmware update to stop it happening that way.

Especially when you consider this is still happening on brand new cars..... its not just an old system thats eventually been compromised.

maybe the manufactures should be fined for making the cars so easy to nick then.

I totally agree when the fault was found it should have been rectified but they have taken the stance not to, so do you as the owner stamp your feet waiting on ford or actually prevent your car from going walkies, its wrong but I know what I would rather do, either not buy it or sort it

Pretty sure you can't insure an RS Turbo or Cosworth of any range without a CAT1 so what makes new RS's an exception with quite clearly a flaw in the system - I often wonder how many of these cars stolen declare them to locked in a secure garage at night when clearly they are not

True, but then this is because they had no security at all for the most part, and even if they had a Ford alarm etc it was basic, hence why they stipulate something decent be installed. In the 21st century security has come on a long way, to the point where thief's steal the keys to take the car.

I think it's a backdoor which allows the immobiliser to be bypassed and it's a problem across various manufactures, I just can't understand why it hasn't been resolved by now, as it's been an issue for some time.

All there doing is programming a new key through the obd I think? Just relocate the one socket and pull the fuse for it. Most aftermarket alarms offer one disabling now.

That's what they are doing.

Blank key and programme kit available to buy on line. One firm even demonstrated where the interior sensors can't see which is great for the thieves.

But their alarm disables the OBD port when the vehicle is locked. If I had one I'd have that system as well as relocating the port and clear film the front windows, saves hoovering the glass

It was on watchdog a while ago with the BMW's so the same thing with the new fords.
