Default Would you sell a 3 Door Cosworth for MK2 Focus RS

As title.

Would you sell a 3 Door Cosworth and replace with a MK2 Focus RS.

Maybe I'm getting old these days.
Whenever I think about travelling to a show I want comfort, all the gadgets and reliability.
The 3 Door has always been a reliable car, just silly little problems tbh, I've owned it for over 10 years and loved every minute of it. Swapping wheels, changing interiors, changing engine hoses and tanks etc, even cleaning underneath. The attention the car gets even when you are just driving along through the town is truly pleasing.
The Focus RS is much newer, has all the comforts you want, air con, sat nav (if on options), reliability, modern car feel etc. I haven't actually driven one yet so maybe thats what should be next to do.

I quite like Focus RS's, I appreiceate the mod cons etc, but don't think I would say I'd prefer it to a 3door!!?

No way, not saying the 3dr is a better car, but value, and what the 3dr is I'd never sell for a focus.
Still pisses me off that I sold my 3dr when moving house. Big mistake.

I would never sell my 3 door for a focus ,you have a piece of motorsport histoy in your garage a focus well its like a mass production racy version of a standard car.
My advice is to buy a Focus and keep the 3 door kept in the garage for those special moments.

Plus, in 30 years time, can you really see a Focus RS having the same status a 3dor has now?
Not saying anyone would buy a car now and worry if people are going to like it in 30 years...

Personally i wouldn't. Not because i think it's a 'better' car but just because I'd prefer to own a nice 3 door over a frs mk2. Assuming its going to be a second car and not your daily obviously!

There is the valve aspect

Would keep the 3dr Cosworth, maybe a personal thing for me it's my favourite of the Cosworth's.

Keep the 3dr & get a Focus Rs if possible.

One is an Icon with a Cosworth badge the other is a far better car in all respects except looks. Personally its the Icon for me the first & greatest Cossie. Im sure the RS is far better to drive but those looks GOOD GRIEF !!!!.

You have really answered your question yourself. " the attention the car gets when you are just driving along through the town is truly pleasing " They are 2 completely different cars from 2 different time periods. Your 3 door is a Ford legend which will never lose its appeal or value but can the same be said for a Focus RS ? I think you would, without doubt regret it if you get rid of your 3 Door.
I have test driven a Focus RS for my Daughter, and yes of course it is smooth and very easy to drive but it just didnt do it for me . When we went for the test drive we took my 2wd Sapphire to the Ford dealers and when we came back there was quite a few of the mechanics, sales staff etc all looking at it. I spent the next 15 minutes answering questions and showing them the engine bay etc.
I have had mine for 21years and enjoyed every one of them, how many Focus RS models will still be around in 21 years time?

I like both cars but i would rather have a well speced 3dr than a focus rs. the 3dr would defo get more looks. The focus rs is just a st on steroids.

If it's for an investment then the 3dr, if it's for driving pleasure, reliability and actually using all year round, then Focus for sure.

Mk2 rs's still get attention off people when your driving around,
I don't think I'd swap a cossie for one though personally,
Then again the reliability factor made me buy my mk2 over a sierra or escort cossie, wouldn't have any where to work on them

i would imagine for a month or two you would be happy with driving the frs ,but then you would kick yourself everytime you seen a 3 dr cossie jason, and as said try finding a good one again .

keep it .

You cant really use a 3 door as an everyday car but who would want to? As I said Focus RS is a modern car which is of course designed to be easy to drive every day, but swap a 3 door for one, personally never.

I'd say no, purely due to the fact the 3 door is an appreciating asset.

Thanks to everyone for you comments.
You all speak some sense.
The Cossie is a weekend / summer car and thats what the Focus would be.
I have a BMW and a Range Rover as daily runners, so the Focus would be used the same as the Cossie.
Looks like the Cossie stays

The focus to me is a daily driver and the 3dr a "toy" so to me I'd rather have a normal daily driver and be excited to take the Cossie out when I get a chance. Can't say I'd be excited to get a modern focus out the garage come a nice sunny weekend. Just only my opinion though. I took my Cossie to our local Rsoc meet the other night and getting back into an old car after a few weeks or so felt magic and made me feel 18 again, couldn't see a modern car doing that as I'm just not into them as much for a toy

If its a itch you have to scratch . I don't regret selling mine . I also don't miss the attention as it just made me worry , the wrong eyes on it etc

All the people saying its a asset in 30 years etc ????? The cost -time you have to spend looking after them to hold there valve would bring it in line. That's holding onto to something for the wrong reason ,its there to be used . I used my 3 door everyday in 2013 and after that lost the love .

A mk2 focus RS will hold its money well , and the mods that can be done to them look impressive . Tough one but id do it I think .

its a tricky one

the focus RS mk2 is still rare enough to seem special, and it will drive better, be more comfortable than the older sierra.

the sierra is a better investment but once you tax insire and run the thing that goes out the way so it doent really matter

personally i would do it, you shouldn't hold on to everything for too long especially once you have tried the new.

i loved RS turbos and owned 3 from 2001-2006, then 2006-8 i had a saff and traded up for a focus RS.

5 years down the line and an RSturbo turned up for sale, it was cheap so i bought it for nostalgia and cos i loved them, after driving the focus for so many years it made the escort seem like a dinosaur, it still looked lovely and was nice to tinker with but if you really want to drive the thing, it needs to be modern. (this is just my opinion)

ive thought about upgarding my FRS to a mk2 but im just a little concerned about the sheer size of the thing as the mk1 is a tight fit in the garage....

and the values are still sky high on them

Id say keep the 3dr. Old school rules, as nice as the Focus RS is, I dont think they give the same pleasure as a Cossie or RS Turbo.

Ive got a focus daily, and my mate has a Focus RS daily, and they lack a certain "something".

For driving the FRS

For owning, that's a choice for you, do you enjoy the maintenance, looks etc

Financially, money is fairly safe in a 3dr, the FRS is due to depreciate soon, they wont hold these high prices for as long as the 3dr will

bit different to owning a cossie but I was lucky enough to have some money so thought about selling my mint c plate xr2 and getting a frs.in the end I couldn't sell the xr2 as I knew it would be such a struggle to find another in that condition and the attention it gets so just saved up longer till I could afford to have both

3dr every time.

When the new rs focus is out the mk2 will be worth far less as its Volvo and not 100% Ford

If you have the desire for a modern car there are far better options than the mk2 frs.

Nope.
Decided to keep the 3 Door as it is a truly iconic car.
Prices seem to be stupid these days for several reasons, so if I changed my mind it would be expensive to get another.
Happy with the daily cars too, Cossies for the weekends.
