Hi,
Im looking at a Diesel M Sport 3 series Touring and I have a couple of questions for people who own or have owned one of these cars.
Is the M Sport suspension much harsher than the non M Sport version ? It will be a daily so want it to be pretty comfortable and not too crashy.
Is the MPG and tax saving of the 318 version worth the drop in performance over the 320 version and is there much difference in the real world over what they say on paper ?
I did do a search on here but didn't get the answers I was looking for..
any other observations on living with the motors day to day would be appreciated..
thanks
Martyn

I racked up 40k miles in my 3 series m sport and didn't find it crashy at all, depends what you are used to though as everyone has a different view of what comfortable is.
I've now moved to a 1 series m sport model which has the awful RF tyres fitted and the ride is FAR too crashy in my opinion, will be changing them for normal tyres as soon as I can.
Regarding engines, I would personally avoid the 4 cylinders and go for a 325 or 330 instead, you can still get some decent mpg from them and they are silky smooth to drive.

i'm looking to ditch the 5 and move to a 318d/320d tourer as well.
mate had a 318d and with a map it gives it 320d performance, he loves his quick cars but misses the 318 as was an awesome car.

It is the Run Flat tyres that make a BMW ride poorly. Take them off and put some proper tyres on and the ride is great. Personally I would go for a 320d over the 318d. Just that little bit better at everything. I ran a 320d M Sport for over 100k miles and it was great. Easily one of the best cars I've had and I would definitely consider another. Buy a decent one and you will not regret it.
