any one changed one of the wet belts on a 2011 transit connect, when mine goes in for a service and cam belt i would like to get this one done at the same time, but would have liked some info on times to change it etc. belt is a cassette type and around 90-00 to buy.

Something like 100,000 miles or 5 years on them.

Look on talk ford website to be sure but even dealerships skip them.

The 1.8 mkV mondeo has the same as well so could use that in your Google search for more info.

I think while the timing belt is done may as well get the wet belt done as well while it's all apart. Saves labour costs.

i have had a read through the thread on there 7 pages.
van is 4 years old but covered 105k so i want to get both belts done.
ford etis shows 150k or 10 years but i wont leave it that long.

they usually snap well before they are due usually before 100k so you are on borrowed time! they are pretty easy to change slightly easier than changing the chains that preceded them i would estimate around £400 for an independant garage to change both belts and all tensioners etc

The interval is 10 years or 125000 miles. Auto data say it's 8 hours to do both belts. I have been quoted about 800 from my local garage to do them on my mondeo. Not really a difficult job just very time consuming as the lower belt is buried!

wet belt, timing belt kit and aux belt for 550-00

Good price that, how many hours labour did they charge for?

they quoted me 500 -550 with 3 hours labour, they said it took there tech nearer 5 hours to do. They said the next one they do will be a bit more money.

Don't wanna come accross as a moron lol but what the hell is a wet belt? Even being a mechanic I've never heard of one. Is it a balance belt? Just asked the other mechanic at work if he's ever heard of one and he just gave me a blank look lol

5 hours is good going, you got lucky with them quoting you for 3. As I said above, autodata says it should take 8!

One belt goes from crank to fuel pump then a seperate one from pump to cam gear. I think.

The wet belt is nothing more than a cambelt in a casette that runs in oil.
Ford replaced the old lower chain that used to come on the Lynx diesels with a belt to improve emmisions and fuel economy. I believe it was fitted on all 1.8TDCi's from 10/07 onwards. Ford say that the interval is 125k/10 years but I've heard of a fair few failing at just over 90k.

A huge chunk of the cost of getting it replaced is the amount of bolts, seals and gaskets that need replacing.
I paid £620 at a main dealer but that included a bit of discount and a tank of diesel as I was messed about a lot.

Thought that may have been the case. . I remember the older connects where I used to work only had a belt from cam but bottom end was chain driven if I remember correctly. Did loads of timing belts on them only took 30 mins for the top belt

Been a while since I worked on a connect and the stock of them they had were up to 2007 plate (van hire rental firm) so suppose that's why I never came accross it! Thanks for clearing that up lol!!

Just had to rebuild a galaxy that snapped the bottom belt at 88000 miles.
