Default Transit Connect Problem

Hello All,

I've a problem with my 06 Ford Connect TDCI and need some help. Over a few days engine became only slightly harder to start than normal in the mornings and engine performance became sluggish. The van then suffered a severe lack of power, as if running on 2 or 3 cylinders and became very jerky as if it was being switched on and off. Now, it will not start - it tries to start but cuts immediately and a cloud of white smoke is emitted from the exhaust. I've already changed the fuel filter using the same method that has always proved successful. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Does sound like a fuel pump fault. Is there any warning lights on the dash

Is there any fault codes ? Injector fail i think if you saw white smoke. Check codes if you have an ids or something like this and than let me know.

Thanks for all your replies,

I'll try to get someone to come out to read the fault codes. Am I right to believe that if the pump has failed the injectors will have been ruined by metal particles passed from the pump and there is also likely to be metal particles returned to the fuel tank?

i have experience this 1st hand, big chance all injectors will need repairing or replacing and ford advise tank should be cleaned.

You should of emptied old fuel filter into a clear bag, and looked for metal with a magnet in the old fuel.

mine did the same thing I was going down the road of a fuel pump but was told it could be the egr valve because it put the coil light on ended up needing four injector runs like a dream again

I've changed loads of the top timing belts. Ive only changed 1 bottom timing chain which os a similar set up to the chain. I took the engine out (cause i was chaning over parts) but I'm sure it could be done in the engine bay.
