WALL!!! Bad News For All Turbo Cars..............
Just heard the news (BBC 5 live), because of a new EEC directive (Section 23348: effective from the 16 August 2005) ALL turbo cars will have to run with a 28 mm air restricter.
The restrictor will be a sealed unit in a tamper proof housing.
The owner of a vehicle will receive a fine of GBP 800.00 if the unit is not fitted or if it is bypassed, and a strong possibility that the vehicle will be confescated/impounded under this new directive.
The action is to be enforced a bid to restrict the power output of ALL turbocharged cars to 298 (DIN) BHP.
Not good news I'm afraid .............
Certain cars will be exempt from this new law:
1. Cars with T4 turbo's....This is because the T4 is classed as a TRUCK TURBO i.e. due to a loophole in the legistlation they CANNOT force owners of T4 equiped cars to remove/change the turbo or to fit the 28mm restrictor (however, these cars will have to be taxed/classed as HGV from 16 th Aug 2005).
2. Cars with T25 turbos (ne T28 turbo - as fitted to Es Cos small turbo) this is because the fitting of the 28 mm restrictor will actually double the amount of air that usually passes through these turbos.
3. All SCS built engines. As Harvey Gibb has done a deal with the EEC to be the sole supplier of UK tuned YB turbo engines. Only engines dynoed by SCS will be exempted from the new legistlation.
A spokesperson for the EEC said "We expect these new regulations to be contrevercial, however i'ts for the best as it will put an end to all the constant bickering/fighting within the UK tuning industry, especially with regard to YB engine tuning"
