Default Digi dash

Who's got one and what you using? Thinking of maybe getting one to put in my saff. Pics would be good if anyone is using one.

I'd try and get a look at one before buying.

I tried a Dash2 in my car a few years back. I hated it. Plain dull boring LCD display, and actually viewing info at a glance was crap

Simple analogue gauges were far better, or now some of the more modern configurable colour displays are much easier to read info at a glance, and far more options.

Yeah I see what what saying I changed my Rev counter ages ago and never got it reading right lol I only changed it as the standard one had a fault and bounced up and down. I'm going over the hole car so will sort this out hence thinking digi. I like the idea of one that will take data direct from my sm4 ecu.

Most aftermarket dashes will communicate with the car ecu now anyway or have an adaptor available to allow it.

Motec's new displays look superb, but the prices are insane.

Plex have some new stuff which look good too, but again pricing is insane for a dash display. They say they will have a cheaper display only version soon though which would be more promising

http://www.plex-tuning.com/products/plex-sdm-500

http://www.efi101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8621

For some strange reason, they make all these displays insanely priced with lots of logging features...when lets face it, most people would or should have an ecu that logs everything anyway.

Yeah I'm only interested in the basics but data data taken direct from the ecu would be better. I like the idea of a modern look I'll have a read up on them links

Plex emailed be a couple of months ago saying the cheaper version of the SDM500 would be around 500 euros, just with less features and no logging. But generally same visuals and same ecu compatibility

Which would be a good option as it is visually appealing and at 500 euros would be well priced.

I guess you also need to factor in whether this is an additional info display, or a sole dash display as there are then legal requirements. ie indicators, lights, warnings etc and odometer

Another slightly more configurable than basic LCD is

http://theefistore.com/index.php/sho...-logger-detail

But it's still a plain bland LCD.

At least with the new Motec, and the Plex stuff with colour available, you could program warnings and actually be able to see them quickly via a colour change.
With a plain bland LCD they'd be easier missed.

Things like warning lights are easy to sort yourself with LEDs do they not record mileage then? A cheaper version dose sound good if at 500 euros it covers the basics I would need it's a very option as is says they link to autronic as well. Also says they suit stock cars so id have guessed they would have an odometer

Not honestly sure about the odometer on them. I know the Dash2 had a proper non user resetable odometer and all the typical lights needed for a road car

Fairly sure the odomoeter is a requirement for our MOT here, maybe yours is less fussy ? I think for years yours never even needed a speedo ? :O
which seems odd lol

Mines always had an odometer it's on the standard speedo and an elliot Rev counter at the mo. In the new year I think I'll drop them an email and get some info on them dash's. There by far the best looking ones I've seen so far

Motec's colour displays are great, but crazy prices. Dont think they've had them configured for other ecu's yet either

http://www.racedatasystems.com/motec...-displays.html

The Plex stuff does look the best all round of anything Ive seen yet.

JTI's Toucan is a good additional display and a decent price, but he hasnt done Autronic yet. But it's far too small for a main display. I think he's working on a larger one though

Northern Ireland, still part of the UK, but most aspects of the test are either the same as England etc or a bit stricter.

Havent a damn clue what the NCT in Ireland is like...it's supposed to be strict, but when you see some of the shitballs driven about down there...you'd think they never get tested !

Although presumably if you left the OEM speedo in place and it still worked...even if you couldnt see it easily...it'd hard to argue there was no speedo/odometer etc.

I got toucan display in my gtr its great but as you say far to small as a main display, handy as an all in 1 gauge though as it monitores my 6 ext temp sensors and 2 lambda sensors amongst all the stock stuff so very handy and a lot tidier than a cabin full of gauges like this monstrosity lol

I had a stack dash in my r33 which I really liked tbh, was nice to have the speedo bang on aswell as its user calibrated and again saved on the silly cabin theme above

Should also mention that in the latest DT catalogue, AIM have a new more colourful dash display available.

Still on the very pricey side, but looks to be an improvement over the LCD stuff

If the normal Stack dash isnt flash enough you can get one of their new ones, your bank account might not agree though...
PS, Stack and Autometer is now the same thing Autometer have owned Stack for quite a few years and Stack production is moved to US.

See what I mean about insane prices !!

Who the fuck in their right mind would pay that for a dash and not already have an ecu that logs everything for them !

They build all these dash displays primarily as loggers it seems. Even despite that, the prices are still insane.

You could buy a full household 50" TV entertainment system, PS4 etc etc and still have change for what some of them cost

Andy- I looked into these modern dashes even fitted them to a couple of cars. I didn't like them they are certainly not in keeping with an old school Saff. What you see will set you back about Ł1800 give or take.
A full set of decent gauges show everything you require although they are not cheap. As for a Speedo/Odometer again I choose a Stack with Rev counter combined. Other gauge is Boost pressure.
At least look at a car with this new fangled type of dash before you decide they confused the hell out of my old Brain .

I'll think long and hard rod. I do like aim and plex ones and if I can do it for under 650 I'll look into it. Main problem I have is getting my Rev counter to work so one that reads data from the ecu dose appeal to me

TBH, I'd stick with OEM style main cluster, and just use an additional display for anything else you want to see.
Hopefully the Plex guy will reply next week to see if the cheaper unit is available yet.
