Hi guys, Heard about the RS500 engine is a bit different compared to the other Cosworths. Whats the other differences apart from the extra 4 injectors?
Thinking of building one!

To get 400+ bhp you need to get the extra 4injectors wired up cos their not from memory and the ECU played about with?!
But as said the block was vert different including smaller core plugs which makes them easy to identify!!! The throttle body was bigger etc. Dont think the head was too different but could be wrong on that!!!
But pretty much easy to get big power out of them hence ppl used to go the 8injector route a while back!

Head is the same as the 2wd..block is much thicker with an 800bhp flex rating, bigger throttle body,8 inj plenum, intercooler, ecu is a std LEVEL 1 that needs to be converted to run 8 by collins or pectel,T4 turbo...not much else is there!!

In what way different? Please don't say the 2 dowels for locating the inlet manifold

RS500 owners need to feel they are special though so ok...give you that

Fact is an RS500 engine is a mile away from being a 500 hp motor and the engine would need modifying in virtualy every dept to make 500 hp reasonably reliably!
RS500's are special, & if I tell you everything, you would know why they are special.
Don't they just

The head of a RS500 is exactly the same casting as any late 2wd head with a 3 bolt thermostat mount on the front (I have one in my shed for spares). The only difference is two holes in the mating face where the plenum attaches for two small dowels to sit, and the fact that the inlet tracts were machined out very slightly at the entry point.
The pistons, rods, crank etc are all standard 2wd items only the oil pump is different which was the prototype version of the 4x4 pump. Same goes with the thermostat housing this was an early development of the 4x4 one
The only special part of an RS500 engine is the block and all its bolt ons - technically the 4x4 internals are superior to the RS500 as they have a better piston design reducing piston slap and oil spray arrangement.
All fact not hearsay

I was lead to believe the block is special, with an uprated oil pump and spray bar and bigger water pump with different thermostat housing, , the pistons are also different to suit block and the head casting was just the 3 bolt one which was used on 2wd saff, with different exhaust valves, and then just the plenum and turbo, but maybe wrong as been a long time since I looked into it.

Have you had a 500hp engine???

Karting,
having dismantled every single type of cosworth engine my information is first hand fact, not read from books and the internet.
How many engines have you stripped to provide your information.
You can buy this head from me if you like, it is complete but one cylinder is completely mashed where no 3 piston let go - make me an offer and put your money where your mouth is.
I shall take some photos if you like

i going past milton keynes I am going past Milton Keynes, would you like to swap heads??
So 'karting' in your expert opinion tell me exactly what you would need to do to make a stock rs500 make 500hp reliably please! I think Stuart would be the best person to answer this question.

I am in Milton Keynes not chester and i have no wish to give you head thanks!

There is no need to buy a 500 block as the 200/4x4 one is better

Which parts do you think you need
