Hi just wondering if anyone can help. Got an xr2 I've turned into a trackday toy and my little Cvh has developed a horrible rattle at idle and low revs. Sounds a bit like the lifters but what's confusing me is it only does it occasionally. Sometimes when I start the car from cold it will do it until it's warm then other times it will be quiet from cold and do it when warm. It's running Newman phase 4 can with solid lifters and twin 40s. Bottom end was rebuilt 3 years ago but defiantly sounds top end rattle rather than bottom end knock. Lifters were set correctly about 5 months ago as they were very noisy and the tuner said a couple of the locknuts were loose (maybe this has damaged the cam and or lifters) was silent after having the lifters setup. Have tried changing oil and even put a brand new dizzy on invade the twin 40s random pulses had taken their toll on the weights in the vacuum advance. Any suggestions?

Haven't got a gauge plumbed in yet. Something I'm looking at doing in the future along with oil temp gauge even tho the engine never goes above quarter on the gauge unless I'm stopped for a while
