What would cause an engine not to start on the button?
I.e within the first crank or two?
But takes like 6-10 secs of cranking to fire
Could a phase sensor be on its way out or badly gapped etc etc?

should be good comp, its a fresh build. Not even run in yet.
Plugs are PP8's and i took them out and cleaned them this morning.
Might replace them with some others just to see if thats the problem. But i dont think it is. as its not even firing on any, i.e its not even trying to start.
Its definately a sparking issue im sure of it.
But i cant see how, 12v is getting to the coilpack, 12v is getting to both the amps, trigger feeds are fine, supple feeds are fine, earths on both are fine.

When cranking is there enough power from the battery, to make every work 100%. When cranking is there 12v to the coilpack not 7.5 for example. Try starting of a booster battery and see if its any different.
Had this problem a couple of times on mine when battery had been sat for a little while.

you got the coilpack's the right way round - silly as it sounds, might be 180 degrees out? - hard to explain for me, but i can visualise it - it triggers 1+4 and 2+3 - you tryed swapping them over? so 1+4 become 2+3 and 2+3 become 1+4 ?

yes
everything is linked up to the laptop through the s8 which tells you the sensor reading of everything going on.
Awesome little tool.
Going to try my battery on there, incase the ampage is down on the battery.

My escort had starting problems.
it the CPS gapped correctly?
is the distributor shaft straight and firm i.e not wobbley? (the plastic ring around the base of the shaft breaks up and shorts out the dist.)
had you checked the timing teeth on the bottom pully not snapped off?
Cheers
Daniel

CPS seems to be working fine as it reads 200rpm when cranking.
Dizzy i think could be the cause of all this, im going to investigate further!
