the fact the authorities can TAKE your land off you if developers want to build on it for afordable houses scared me off.
must admit though, i would seriously consider a move as you cant fart in this country these days without some prick waving a fixed penaly notice under your nose

make sure you find out about the communal costs
you have to find a decent lawyer as alot of the spanish will try shafting you
over many years we have found out how to do things properly
when you sell up the government takes 40%

My parents have just bought property in Spain, they did a lot of research before choosing what to buy but still the development over ran by 18 months from the original completion date given.
Their place is in Aguilas in the district of Costa Calida, its an area being heavily developed at the moment.
They initially signed up to pay just over £70k, they had a payment plan similar to the above, however they got stung when going to make one of the installment payments, something about the change in exchange rate and charges made by their Spanish Bank, it cost them about an extra £10k I believe.
I went out to the apartment in January and although it had all been signed over there were still very noticable problems that are still being worked on even now (the main one being the pool sprung a leak into the underground car park!).
Just be very careful when choosing your property, befriend the people buying property within the same complex, this helped my parents a lot and saved them having to go over and check up on it all the time, between 4 couples they shared updates and progress reports.
Make sure your Spanish solicitor has good spoken and written english as a lot of minor details were lost in translation, you will also need to pay for an English solicitor during the transaction which can be very pricey.
To fit air con/heating the builders wanted around £10k, but for a local supplier to install a similar system is only going to cost my parents around £2k so be careful of builders taking the p1ss.
Lastly, as said above, the communal costs can be very expensive, make sure you get these in writing before handing over any cash.
If you want me to ask my parents any specific questions etc... just gimme a shout

My Brother in law has just sold up & gone over to Southern Spain.
Think he brought an penthouse apartment with 2 en suites & a roof terrace for just over £110,000!!!
He's taken 2 young girls with him who've made friends straight away, he doesnt have to think about work for a few months due to the money made with UK property........but he's a Mechanic by trade so shouldn't be hard.
His reason for going were i can only assume are like everyone else's reasons.........The state of this countrys government/legislations etc. Its enough to drive anyone away!
I've always said if my missus fell pregnant next week, i'd seriously think about moving to New Zealand (Aussies whinge too much!! ) I have many Kiwi friends etc so climiatisation shouldn't be too hard.
And the shipping costs would be next to nothing as i'm in the industry!!
This government should stop & think about all the honest tax paying/hard working residence they're pushing to other countries

I still live with my parents and they have been looking into moving to florida. If we sell our house that is worth approx £180,000 we could buy a 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom, villa style house with balcony, swimming pool etc for approx £150,000
Im going to go with them but only for a couple of years, as i wanna work in cyprus during the summer months, then decide what i wanna do once ive had my fun.
Ive always said id move abroad when im older, the way of life is so easy going and relaxed, chillin in the sun.
U got me dreaming now.

A couple of my mates are over there now eyeing up places
Bulgaria and Croatia is still fairly cheap at the moment, but your best off buying from plans to get a better investment rather than a ready built.
Kenya (mombassa) is dirt cheap, 6 bedroom fully air con, massive pool and in its own grounds with large garden, own access to the beach £35k.
Sri Lanka is looking for investment at the moment so i reckon there could be some movement over there within the next 18 months or so.
