Default Rare Cam Cover- Anyone seen one like this before?

having a chat with my father in law about my old cosworth saff and how much i miss it running, can he help with the rebuild ect- was very enlightening today- he used to be head engineer at cosworth in northampton and worked closely with the group n rally cars so does know a bit or two about them - he happened to mention a "few" rarities he has in the loft. This cover was part of a special run done for ford and come WITHOUT the cosworth name cast in it

[IMG][/IMG]

on the underside its cast with yn1 and scratched in by hand is the number 310 - is that a serial number or the amount of covers made?

He's got a plain cover that is for dry sump YBs that just says cosworth on it and the filler cap hasnt been filled in its actually cast in

i've seen pics of those ones but i think they were used in single seater race cars mainly and while rare, they are not a patch on the other head - i cant find any of the other ones! to cap it off he has the standard red, green and blue cam covers which he has hanging in the garage as decorations! so down to you guys to help out shed light on applications thiese were used for - possible pinto conversions? factory ford rally cars to hide the cosworth involvment?? i asked the old boy but he really cant remember what was used on what and has no idea how many were cast or where they were shipped to.

your thoughts on rarity Gents.....

The black one is a panther solo one I think, a fibreglass low volume sports car fitted with a yb. I was looking at one in beaulie simply ford day, sure the guy said only 6 were made.
The one with no filler plug was used by cateram again low volume in one of their cars.

was there a reason the cosworth name was left off for the panther solo one? he has a black one marked with the cosworth name on it which he said was used for the panther project- was there two models released or was it a case of European spec and USA spec cam covers?

to be honest i'm not sure i like the plain one, it looks WAY cooler to have the cosworth logo on there! might be ok for a pinto dohc turbo conversion but seems a bit pointless to remove the cosworth association

With such a limited run they may have not decided if they were going to put the cosworth logo on the cam cover or not, but all the panther ones iv seen had no logo. They built quite a few engine for panther that were not used and have turned up in other cars and on eBay etc.
Iv also seen a load of strange inlet manifold that must have been development/ other projects, for bigger throttle bodies etc.

That's the one paul! I questioned the angle of the engine to the owner of the one I seen and he said it was due to the 4wd system, a t5 box converted to run 4wd he said. This I wasn't quite sure about and have never researched it!

I am not sure what box they ran Lee, BBR had a load of the spare Panther engines all brand new in a crate years ago, wanted £4k for one or £5.5k for a crated new 500 engine, I was tempted back then.
