Exclamation 2006 Fiesta ST ESP warning light stuck on

Hi all,

I've had the ESP light on my 2006 ST stuck on & I can't turn it off with the button on the dash above the stereo.

I've been told by a mechanic it's the ABS and to get rid of it I need the pump replacing, which I don't believe.

I called Ford and they said it's likely to be a fault with the system / the ESP sensor.

Anyone know what this is? Obviously the ESP doesn't kick in if I wheel-spin, but I know the ABS works fine.

Obviously don't want to fork out for a new pump and if would be good to know if there is an easy fix!

Thanks in advance

I had a very similar problem to you on my MK 1 Focus, I found out it was the steering angle sensor and having the tracking done fixed mine, BUT... you need to get your DTC code checked to find out what sensor is causing the problem, I very much doubt there is a problem with the ABS pump as you said it works fine and to be honest i'd expect the ABS warning light to come on too.

Agree, you need the code checking.

I've just replaced the Steering angle sensor on my Octavia, for the same reason.

Cheers guys!

He told me it's "C1288 brake pressure sensor circuit failure" even though the ABS works fine and it's the ESP that doesn't...

I was working on a car with the same fault as yours and it was the pump that had problems. The ESP is part of the ABS pump and its best to send it off for a repair otherwise your looking at ££££££££ from the dealers.

Very common fault on any Ate mk60 ABS equipped vehicles, VW/BMW/Ford etc all have the same issues.

Get the ABS unit repaired, as they are £1400 + vat from Ford
