Default Rubber steering wheel, de-laminating???

He steering wheel on my van (merc sprinter) is coming apart in my hands.
It's like when you use a rubber to remove pencil marks. Little balls of rubber keep coming off in my hands and it looks terrible. And is not very comfortable.
The vans only done 40k
Anyone got any ideas how I can repair it?

Why don't you just put a replacement one on? If not then you could get some squash racket grip and make a neat job of it.
