Default hand painting a car

Has anyone hand painted a car? Is it worth the effort? I've got a trusty Triumph that I love to pieces and has served me well whilst I've been in NZ. But the kiwi sun has fucked the paint over the years and some of its been blown in and some of it looks original. Complete with primer in places and totally cracked paint on the roof and bonnet where the sun gets it worst it looks a mess I've got to be honest. I can't afford a proper respray and don't even have anywhere go work on it inside but I've been looking on the net and lots of Americans have painted their cars in stuff called rustoleum. I think its like a hammerite which they've thinned down. Some have left it matte and some have buffed it to half decent results.
Has anyone roller painted a car before?
Is it worth the effort in prep?
Would it be easier to get uniform matfe finish or gloss?

I don't expect a brilliant finish but don't want it looking like a chavvy shit heap either ( which it kind of looks like anyway) I just want it all one colour.

Any pros or cons and or tips?
Joe.

I painted a fiat panda with green army paint and a brush, it was my first ever car I was 12 years old, I thought it was cool at the time with its 4x4 out in the fields hooning about lol

this will be of some interest, it appears genuine and a good finish but still a lot of work

We did my brothers discovery with a gloss roller and 2 pack paint

I wanted to do a proper spray job and altho it wasn't mint it was very respectable, so much so if I ever get round to painting my disco it'll be done with a roller!

When I was learning to drive my dad let me have a Mk3 Cortina from his "yard", sadly it was purple, so I painted it post office red.

I knew it was post office red as the P/O used it to paint the letter boxes

My mate rollered his van (I think with rustoleum) then flatted it with wet and dry followed by machine polishing. It took a long time but the end result was as good as a spray job.

Cheers, yeah that disco looks similar to the results on YouTube. I was mainly wondering if it was the usual internet bollocks and if it worked at all. Cheers chaps I'll probably go ahead with it now

I'll post pics.

Rattle canned my Focus race car in satin black. Was never going to get a decent finish with gloss and matt just looks crap. Some parts are a decent finish, the larger panels aren't. It's all in the prep work. The worst bits i am just going to cover with stickers.

I painted the old fast ford sierra drift shitter, used satin orange rattle cans from halfords.
Funny thing was i primered it using a spray gun and compressor and it looked pretty good, then looked wank after the rattle cans, but that was kind of the point lol.

Barton from total vauxhall roller painted their omega drift car, up close it wasnt great but then he never polished it after.

If you do a solid colour and put enough paint on you can correct it after with a machine polish.

I was going to go for gulf race colours, blue and orange but don't think I'll find the right shades very easily. I love the look of this falcon and lends a similar shape to my mk2 http://www.hotrod.com/techarticles/b...get_paint_job/

And this shine looks too good to be true

I'm gonna do more research into the colours I can get

My dad has done this in the past a few times. He said after he had rubbed the paint down and gave it a good polish he said it looked mint and you would of never know. It had been painted with a brush.
