Default Esc Cos Problem - Cuts out once warm

I own a large turbo escort cosworth with a problem. The problem is that when I start the engine cold it starts ok. Let it idle to the normal temperature about 15minutes and it just cuts out. If I try to start again,it wont start. Engine cranks properly when starting. Let it "cool" about 5 to 10 minutes and it starts just like nothing ever happened. The prolem also appears when hot, after driving. I park the car, come back in about 10 minutes, try to start and wount start. When starting from cold no problems, always starts up properly. CPS sensor has been change today, but to no avail. Also tried a Coil, but again, car starts fine, then cuts out once warmed up.

I have noticed that when I turn the car to ignition, the sensor that is located to the right of the engine and is light grey in colour (located by where the boost hose goes into the engine, next to throttle cable) this clicks quite loudly and quick..

Any ideas as to what the problem could be as its eally starting to annoy me!

Thanks

spiky..

we are not too clued up on the sensors, but the one making a dodgy clicking sound was located on the end of the boost hoose (right hand side of engine) Light grey in colour

should have taken a pic but was getting dark and cold

clicking sound is probably coming from the iscv, it's supposed to do that when you switch the ignition on

to be honest, i havent got a clue what im talking about spadge

Dilly - cheers, but not what we wanted to hear was hoping it was this sensor that was the cause

Spiky - it looks abit different to yours See the yelow plug on yours, just above the throttle cable, that was the one making strange sounds

Just lovely when we picked it up, but saying that, we were on the M1 pretty much straight away, so kept cool.. went in slow lane for abit, then it must have got warmer and died left it for 5-10 mins and started... then later died..

No problem mate!
The temp sensor is on the inlet side of the head right at the back directly below a coolant pipe coupling and is blue in colour

cheers spadge... so tomorrow morning will be checking that.. Is there a way to check the actual sensor to see if its faulty? Or is it a case of putting a different one on?

IE driving round yours tomorrow and buying one

Would this sensor make the car cut out after a certain point in that it reaches a certain temp?

Thank

I'm not sure if someone mentioned this before but you may also want to look at the ignition amp? Good lucj I know how frustrating this can be.

It is very hard to diagnose problems like this without seeing the car.
I/we can only offer best guesses.

Sorry, cant suggest much more DIY things to check.

While the engine is running, grab hold of the ecu and shake it !
Dont tug on the wiring loom too hard.

If the engine cuts then it could be a faulty ecu/dry joint, a fault connector pin or
a broken wire in the wiring loom.

Needle in the haystack I am afraid....
