Just been watching this
I didn't realise there were any 3 door cosworths in the btcc I thought they were all rs500's and the odd xr4ti, does anyone know what spec the engine was at the time? I'm guessing it'll be a lightly modded t3 turbo on it as he has a rover stuck to his ass most of the time

This was before the rs500 was homologated
they ran most rs 500 parts , this is why the rs500 was born as the POWERS THAT BE WERE GOING TO BAN THE COSSIE AS IT WAS TO FAR AWAY FROM THE STD 3 DOOR , hence the 500 was produced
Andys car was a Merkur XR4Ti , 2.3 turbo engine

Andy also raced a regular (non-RS500) YB 3-door briefly in 1987.

The XR4ti shells stayed that way - one of the rouse shells was to have resurfaced a few years back somewhere (was it Scotland) with it's split windows, I think it went to Aus/NZ after the BTCC?
As you say, the V8 Rovers were still just about competitive at that point of the season, until the RS500 was homologated.
It does say some basic details on the 1987 video I have like BHP wheel sizes, but not turbo injector sizes etc - that would have been sensitive(ish) between teams at that point.
It took a little while for the other teams to catch up with Rouse's knowledge on the Sierra's, as said above he ran the XR4ti which had been a good base for getting the Cosworth ready for action so to speak.
Funny I was watching the 1989 'Birmingham superprix' last night, it blows my mind 140mph past peoples houses! And Murray Walker saying things like 'look at the mosque receding into the distance'
They did other races on the same day and I'm sure I read somewhere that a single seater type car ended up in the front of a shop![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
80's BTCC Is amazing, I really love the Sierra's but also love the absolutely mental sound of the Istel Rover's engine from the in car camera.
Also, now i'm waffling about it, How Fantastic was Win Percy as a driver
