I think every car enthusiast hates MOT time, but at least you have checked it over so know it has a chance of passing

Same,

Just been through it twice in the last two weeks with my and my Wifes car.

Despite being old cars I knew they they should sail through but there is always that nagging doubt.

My 520d passed yesterday, I was a tiny bit concerned about the new dpf rules as mine has been gutted but it was happy days.

Try having to take other peoples vans for MOT's and them having to pass that day so as not to inconvenience the customer. And not being able to book the MOT as you don't know what you're going to need to do. It's a nightmare, especially in central London. Pretty much all the garages round london are out to rip you off as I know the rules and they always try it on.

There's loads of rip off merchants in London which makes it hard for the good garages as customers think places like kwik fit, Halfords and all the other big auto centres are the ones to trust and all the small garages are dodgy where as its the other way round 80% of the time

It can be very stressful and I only ever seem to have trouble round London. I had one the other day where they came out and said "it's failing at the moment due to brake pedal rubber" that brings on the "oh fuck" pannick as I've got other jobs pressing and my mind is racing as to why I missed it and where to get one etc. Then with the next breath I got "we keep them on the shelf, do you want it changed or you gonna let it fail?" Me thinking I've fucked up just said change it. Got back to the van and the new brake rubber was half on (not even on at the top of the pedal) and the old one was laying in the drivers footwell still with just a small amount of wear to the corner (bare in mind this is the vehicles first MOT with low mileage) Took it back as a souvenir for my boss who went mental (he's a tester)

I've had numerous arguments about brake disc integrity over the years. Even when they won't give in, I keep them on my van and usually have the van back to them in an hour with new discs on something like a transit that they'd like to cream hours of work out of.

That's ridiculous, if your a local trader we normally give you a bit of grace unless its a big job either way you normally get a list, but where I work there's a tight group of garages where we all help each other out

Nothing worse than an MOT test for getting someone sweating lol, I remember once I had a car that was failing so badly they just abandoned the test lol
