No noise on mine, but they're known to vary a lot as the preload on these are not individually corrected.

Well, it should'nt and it will affect your bearings if it does. A lot of these have been returned to Tremec and replaced by new units.

In my opinion; these should all be fitted with the modified linkage finger and carbon fiber reinforced syncro rings as this greatly improves the transmission. The syncros can take more beating as well as slow the gears down faster, allowing for quicker gear change. These transmissions are known to be almost impossible to get into third gear at higher revs without this mod.
Even shifting normally into 5th is also a problem on these (without the mod).

As Rod stated above, his sounds terrible, but doesn't have any problems with gear changes. His has been in the car since 1999 if I remember correctly. Check this clip on Youtube

Yep November 1999 . Didnt buy it from Tremec as they didnt have a Cossie suitable gear kit back then. Commisioned 'Black Horse Performance' in the States to fit a gearkit used in the Bathurst race series series back then in a new box. Its been in the car since & has never had an oil change. Always noisy it has coped with huge Torque all that time. Almost certainly the first to fit that kit on a road car sometime later Tremec came out with the TKO600 using those ratios.
If you click the pic in my first post you can hear it in all its glory as it slows down.

That's not a noisy box Rod, you need to have a listen to some proper transmission for competition for noise.

Todays TKO should not make any noise. If it does then there is a preload or meshing problem with the box, this also happens with *some (rarely though) newly built T5s, sometimes you just have to find the sweet spot to make them stop sounding shit. The blueprint is the same, sizes are just larger for the TKO. Just talk to any of the Tremec dealers in the US and you get the same reply, especially the ones who modify them like libertygears and ampperformance.

I must add, it's only noisy on overrun, no noise when on the throttle
