Testing a starter motor
on my old mk1, i could remove my starter motor, conect jump leads to a battery and the earth on the starter motor housing and the positive on the bit where the power strap normally clamps. this would normally make it go crazy and fly around like fuck
i got a Mk3 escort with a CVH and the starter motor is turning really really slowly. i've just removed it and connected it to jump leads like described, but nothing is happening. this starter motor has a solinoid on the side, unlike my Mk1 Escort which had the solinoid seperate.
is there any way to test a mk3 starter motor with a battery and some jump leads?
Tom.

Even if you get it going there is no way that you can really tell if its serviceable.I took mine to a starter motor specialist and he said"there is nothing wrong with that motor mate.its as good as the day it was made.good them bosch motors .didnt replace anything coz it works ok".It continued to turn the engine slowly and i spent ages lookin for a bad earth etc.The bloody motor was fooked all along.
