Since swapping the engine over in the mk4 fiesta from the 1.2 to a 2.0 its been a good drive im using a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold and down pipe and no cat .How ever im still restricted by the 1.2 exhaust from the second silencer and back box the rest of the exhaust from the second silencer to the exhaust manifold is 2 inch.Would i get away with ditching the second silencer and run a complete 2 inch system and fit my mongoose back box which is from an escort rs turbo or would it be to loud? Who else on here runs there daily runner with no cat and and just a sports back box with no middle silencer.i dont really want to be attracting the wrong attention

It's going to be loud. NA cars have no turbo to act as a silencer which is why RSt's have just one box. If cost is an issue, just get a system from a motorfactors for an XR2i

Unfortunately as the law is so vague, and various cops are clueless as to the law...there is no easy answer
Any deviation from the manufacturers standard or modification to make the exhaust louder can be deemed illegal. Although it usually takes a wanker of a cop to enforce this.
Of course on the other hand, you get ballbags in their Honda's with ear splitting sounds from their cars who absolutely deserve all the grief they can get due to the exhausts...or lack of they do to their cars.
If you've a bit of sense, fit as many and as big a silencer as you can and keep the noise down.
Silencers are available for relatively low cost these days and in all shapes and sizes.

As above, there's no ACTUAL specification as to how loud your car can be to be considered illegal, pretty much depends on the copper that pulls you! If they do...
My mate ran a DC5 that was stupidly loud, never got pulled for being too noisy! Just racing

There was a consultation done a while back. I had a copy of it somewhere.
Newer cars with factory sound levels done and dusted had figures. But after testing hundreds of cars, they were going to introduce a blanket level for those that didnt have factory figures.
It was just a consultation document and not actual legislation though ( yet )
The problem is at present, and as with a lot of motoring "offences", the police can use their calibrated eyes/ears and just say "Excessive noise".
Once that term is used, the onus will be on you to prove otherwise. The usual motoring guilty until you can afford to prove yourself innocent scenario.
It costs them no time, money or effort to make the charge against you so they dont care.. But it will cost you to defend yourself.
It's just a sign of the times, so better to try and make it as quiet as you can so as not to attract attention from ballbags with nothing better to do.

My dad was pulled by vosa once on an road side inspection where they told him there was a legal noise limit. They tested the noise level and lucky he passed through and they just sent him on his way.

As Rick says, you don't really want a single box system on an NA car, it will be LOUD,boomy etc...
Different car altogether but a mk2 Golf GTI 16v has 4 boxes (One incorporated in the down pipe, one in the tunnel, one across the rear beam area and a back box)
I had a SuperSprint system on mine which only had the rear silencer, deleting the other silencers apart from the one on the downpipe.
It was horrendous tbh..![Surprised](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/bigcry.gif)
Ok under 40mph and above 80mph, but inbetween, deafening.
