Awesome cars, I love the fact they hit top speed in 5th, whereas 6th is just a cruising gear!
Also I seem to remember the top speed was quite a bit higher than the claimed 172/5(can't remember which)!

I like it! And ye I'm sure I heard that they pulled like 177 or somethng during testing but the car was still pulling so the top speed was actually even higher.

That sounds a fair bit i think considering its done 130k, seen them about for that money with half the miles quite recently. I looked into getting one last year but decided against it as parts are sposed to be incredibly difficult to get, even basic service parts. Anybody been out in one? How well do they go?

Just saw it on ebay, the guy selling it is a trader and a complete bullshitter!! I went to look at an escos he had for sale last year, told me on the phone he was a collector and had loads of cars ect in a big unit that had security patrols and all sorts, also told me the car was mint with no faults blah blah blah.
I turned up at was seemed/looked like the most dodgy shithole industrial estate you have ever seen, i thought i had the wrong place. But i did not, the car was nothing like as decribed, wasnt the worst youve ever seen not nice, cheap painjob, oil everywhere, leaking coolant, rack coverd in power steering fluid, it was warm when i got there and had the worst piston slap ive ever heard, exhaust literally a fag packet off the floor, ect ect ect ect.

I drove 3 hours to go look at it and when i politley told the bloke i wasnt interested as the car was not as described he got well funny, told me he knew we were timewasters and basically to piss off! I had my laptop and card reader in my car ready to buy the thing. After that i said sod cossies i cant be arsed to look at anymore lol

does seem a bit cheap but then the upkeep on these is horrendous.

would definitely like one if I had the brass to run it properly.

Had a tussle with one when I was 19 and thought a 170bhp Rs Turbo was quick. He passed me at 120 like I had the handbrake on

Legend car. I used to drop my brother down to work in the morning, and often stop in the local MacDee's on the way, and there was a guy that stopped there most times on his way to work in one of these. 30 something, suit and tie, necks a coffee and a McMuffin then slides into a Lotus Carlton and saunters off down the road like it's family saloon. Then drops the hammer off the lights and it's nothing but dust!

Awesome car

the most difficult part to get hold of is the gearbox, apparently the bellhousings can crack and while there is a fix, you can't get them anymore so you need to perform some "engineering" on them

spoke to autobhanstormesr at a show a few years ago and they had a few of them on the stand, just as i rememeber them when the local vauxhall dealer down the road used to have one parked up, but Ł49k for a car back int he day was about half a house

I had two of them, one lhd one rhd.
They go well, bit basic inside, not much head room, very expensive if you want drive it rather than polish it, brakes expensive to repair/replace, bodywork rots badly, rear floor under the rear seat crack around the rear subframe mounts, electric ancillary water pump fails leading to head gasket failure and/or a cracked block, timming chains snap (nneeded a duplex chain) rear diff overheats, bellhousing cracks, many part unique to the fuel injection and ignition now unobtainable.
Bought the lhd car back from Germany, had it flatout on several occasions, it used that much fuel it whould have been cheaper to airfrieight the car, although not as much fun.

My uncle had one, they pull like a train, especially higher up. And as others have said, very expensive to maintain, I remember him saying the brakes discs (13-inch jobbies!) and head bolts came from Germany and were expensive/hard to get hold of, but that was a good few years ago.

Geared to pull 176mph at 4000rpm from memory. I.e. 44mph per 1000rpm.
